Horse Slaughter bill gets another try
Today, the anti-horse slaughter bill was again re-introduced via an amendment to HB 649.
The amendment will outlaw the slaughter of horses for human consumption in Illinois.
While it is already illegal in Illinois to sell horsemeat for human consumption, this amendment will make the practice of slaughtering horses and exporting the meat overseas illegal as well.
This amendment and a ban on the cruel practice of slaughtering American horses for human consumption has wide spread support throughout Illinois and the United States, from both horsemen and non-horsemen alike, veterinarians, equine groups and humane organizations.
The National Horse Protection Coalition urges anyone who cares for the welfare of our countries horses, to contact their Illinois state legislators and ask them to vote in favor of this legislation.
