FREE EIGHT-WEEK HANDICAPPING CONTEST AT NTRA.COM TO OFFER WEEKLY CASH PRIZES, BERTHS IN DRF/NTRA NATIONAL HANDICAPPING CHAMPIONSHIP
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) today announced a relaunch of “Beat the Handicapper”, a free, eight-week contest at
www.ntra.com that challenges fans to correctly handicap one designated race each week. A similar competition was held earlier this year from April 22-June 10. Contestants will again compete for weekly cash prizes ranging from $250 for first place to $50 for fourth place. The two handicappers with the best cumulative performance over the eight weeks will each receive berths in the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship, to be held January 26-27, 2007, at Bally’s Las Vegas.
This Fall’s competition will begin this Saturday, September 16 and continue for the next seven Saturdays, concluding on Breeders’ Cup World Championships Day, November 4. Each week, a guest handicapper will make publicly posted selections for that week’s designated contest race, using a $50 mythical bankroll. Competitors will also make selections—using a special mock tote machine—based on a mythical $50 bankroll, and they may wager up to $30 in straight win, place or show bets plus an additional $20 in exotic wagers. Should a competitor’s selections return more money than those of that week’s guest handicapper, a $50 bonus will be added on to his or her weekly contest score.
On September 16, the designated contest race will be the Brooklyn Breeders’ Cup Handicap from Belmont Park, and the guest handicapper will be Ellis Starr of Equibase.
