Hoo, boy.

Trump Budget Director: Health Care for All Actually Means Jailing People
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/03/trump-budget-director-health-coverage-means-jailing-people.html

Donald Trump ran for president repeatedly promising to replace Obamacare with a terrific plan that would cover everybody for less money. Faced with the utter impossibility of this promise, many conservative Republicans are ignoring Trump’s promise to give everybody access to medical care, or else treating it is an impossibility. Mick Mulvaney, the ultra-right-wing budget director, explained Sunday on Face the Nation that universal care is impossible unless you throw people in prison for being uninsured.

“The only way to get truly universal care is to throw people in jail if they don’t have it,” explains Mulvaney. It’s true! Just go to any country that has universal health insurance — that is, any industrialized country except the United States. Their prisons are filled with the uninsured. There is literally no other way to ensure that people who can’t afford medical care have access to it. So that’s why Republicans have no choice but to enact a huge cut to health-coverage subsidies to finance a huge tax cut for the rich.

"Americans who default on some of their federal student loans are likely to pay more after Education Secretary Betsy DeVos reversed an Obama administration directive limiting some fees. But it turns out the Trump administration decision has some beneficiaries—including the father of a key DeVos lieutenant who just quit.

DeVos’s decision, announced Thursday in a memorandum to the student loan industry, allows companies known as guaranty agencies to charge distressed student debtors fees equivalent to 16 percent of their total balance, even when borrowers agree within 60 days to make good on their bad debt.

The reversal is almost certain to hand United Student Aid Funds Inc., the nation’s largest guaranty agency, a victory in its two-year legal battle against her department. The fees could translate into an additional $15 million in annual revenue for the company, filings in a related lawsuit suggest. Until Jan. 1, United Student Aid Funds was led by Bill Hansen, who served as Deputy Secretary of Education under President George W. Bush. His son, Taylor Hansen, a former for-profit college lobbyist, was until three days ago one of the few DeVos advisers with professional experience in higher education.

The younger Hansen resigned from the Education Department on Friday".

"With almost all senior positions at the Education Department vacant—and few political hires with professional experience in higher education—the younger Hansen may have wielded significant influence on DeVos’s policies. With his departure, the department has yet another post to fill."

"For struggling borrowers, said Rohit Chopra, a senior fellow at the Consumer Federation of America who previously advised Obama’s Education Department and was the top student loan official at the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, “this just adds insult to injury.”

Speaking with Politico, Johnson explained that his own initial source for the U.K. wiretap theory was a Democrat who is not actually in the U.S. intelligence community but has ties there, and was someone “with a history of having access to national security information.” That source, according to Johnson, was “alarmed at what he saw as this meddling in the election.” He says he confirmed the tip with two people in the intelligence community and “we’re not talking janitors or cleaning ladies.”

Johnson also appeared on the state-controlled Russia Today (RT) television network earlier this year to contest the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia interfered in last year’s election. He then repeated that opinion earlier this month when he reappeared on the network one day after Trump tweeted his now notorious allegation that President Obama had illegally ordered a wiretap on him and Trump Tower. In that interview, Johnson — who says he was not paid by RT for his appearances — seems to have made the first-ever public mention of the U.K. wiretap theory, alleging that senior members of the Obama administration had colluded with the U.K. to spy on Trump and then illegally disseminated that information throughout the U.S. government. He has also passed along the theory that U.S. government insiders like the CIA may have hacked the Democratic National Committee during the campaign instead of Russia.

“I’m not a nut,” Johnson told Politico.

The British government says it told its U.S. counterparts that they should have ignored the “ridiculous” wiretap claim, and also stated that the U.S. has promised not to repeat the accusation. The White House, however, has denied a report that they apologized to the British government for highlighting the allegations. “I don’t think we regret anything,” White House Press Secretary Spicer said to reporters on Friday, “We were just passing on news reports.”

No, no wait. It wasn't the British who tapped Trump for Obama, it was the Elbonians. The Elbonians. Yeah. And it wasn't some janitor who told me, it was Obama's mother-in-law.

Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!

Only took them two months for the Trump Circus Train to arrive at their own, "If you like your health plan you can keep it" moment.

"How Trump Earned His Low Approval Rating; The man in the White House is failing even those who favored his “Make America Great Again” platform."

"The percentage of Americans who disapprove of the job that President Trump is doing rose to 57 percent over the weekend, his worst showing yet. Just 37 percent now tell Gallup they approve."

"if some Trump voters are turning against him, as these numbers suggest, the hit is well-deserved. Even Americans who loved Trump’s campaign promises have been given new reasons in the last couple of months to reassess their prior support, even if they’ve lost no enthusiasm for his “Make America Great Again” platform.

The problem for them is what they’re getting instead."

"Part of Trump’s appeal was his assertion that he was a born winner who’d keep winning for Americans. So far, however, he has done a lot of losing."

"Some Trump supporters are figuring out that recently proposed changes to health-care policy and the federal budget would be excellent for folks a lot richer than they are, but very hard on working class people who voted Trump."

"Trump promised to “drain the swamp” in Washington, D.C., often citing the appearance of corruption that Hillary Clinton created by cashing in on her government service". "rather than behave better, Trump has exploited the presidency to benefit himself and his family to an unprecedented degree."

"Americans don’t want their country to be a laughingstock." "They assumed that he would exhibit more discipline and judgment if elected. He hasn’t."

If by "advancing US interests" you mean Donald Trump's pocketbook, as he spends every weekend at a Trump resort which turns around and charges the hell out of the US taxpayer for accommodating all the staff and Secret Service ... yeah, it's quite different.

"Analysis: Reality catching up with Trump on Russia"

"Monday's hearings left the White House scrambling for cover, though there was little to be found."

"Spokesman Sean Spicer launched into a series of confounding arguments during his daily briefing."

"In one particularly eyebrow-raising moment, Spicer resorted to claiming one associate, Paul Manafort, had a "very limited role" in the 2016 election. In fact, Manafort was hired in March as Trump's convention manager and promoted to campaign chairman in May. Spicer also described foreign policy adviser Michael Flynn as simply a "volunteer." Flynn traveled frequently with the president, delivered a high-profile speech at the Republican National Convention and served as his first National Security Adviser."

"Ivanka Trump, who moved to Washington, D.C., saying she would play no formal role in her father’s administration, is now officially setting up shop in the White House.

The powerful first daughter has secured her own office on the West Wing’s second floor — a space next to senior adviser Dina Powell, who was recently promoted to a position on the National Security Council. She is also in the process of obtaining a security clearance, and is set to receive government-issued communications devices this week.

In everything but name, the first daughter is settling in as what appears to be a full-time staffer in her father’s administration, with a broad and growing portfolio — except she is not being sworn in, will hold no official position, and is not pocketing a salary, her attorney said."

"ethics watchdogs immediately questioned whether she is going far enough to eliminate conflicts of interest, especially because she will not be automatically subjected to certain ethics rules while serving as a de facto White House adviser."

"Oh Where, Oh Where Is the House Ethics Committee?"

"It is more than two months after the beginning of the 115th Congress – an opening day most noted for the failed effort by House Republicans to neuter independent oversight of the ethics process – and the official House Ethics Committee itself is the only formal committee of Congress that has yet to meet and begin work.

Only after queries as to why the ethics committee has failed to organize itself this late in the session, did the committee announce it has scheduled its first meeting for Wednesday, March 22.

“The extraordinary delay in the House Ethics Committee to resume work reflects the lack of priority for ethics in this Congress,” said Craig Holman, government affairs lobbyist for Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division. “Trump’s brazen refusal to abide by the conflicts of interest and ethics laws of the nation has set the tone that ethics just don’t matter from the top down.”

The absence of the House Ethics Committee also raises technical questions of when, and if, referrals for ethics investigations from the independent Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) must become public, as otherwise required by law.

“OCE has been an effective spur to make the ethics process work largely because its referral cases are made public 45 days after being sent to the ethics committee,” said Lisa Gilbert, vice president of legislative affairs for Public Citizen. “The failure of the ethics committee to organize could well be a means by which members of Congress bury OCE referrals so the public never sees them.”

At least one referral from OCE to the House Ethics Committee sent last August has been buried from public view because the committee has failed to organize in the new Congress."

The American taxpayers will now have to pick up salaries for a staff and more security for her, and they can all take offsite meetings at Trump properties and so on, to pump even more taxpayer money into those Trump coffers. Because while Donald's weekly golf outings to Florida, and Jared's "business" on the taxpayer dime already turning a tidy sum for Trump Inc., the family is leaving money on the table by leaving Ivanka sitting around home doing nothing. Need to get her into another phony White House job and start steering more gov't "business"  Wink to Trump properties.

There's 20 times more special advisers, departmental spies, and useless no-show jobs in this Trump White House than there were working czars in the Obama admin.

"Congress May Roll Back Injury Log Requirement, Endangering Workers"

"Every regulation should have to pass a simple test:  Does it make life better or safer for American workers?” Those words were delivered by President Donald J Trump last month as he signed an Executive Order on Regulatory Reform.

For more than 40 years, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) required employers with ten or more workers in high hazard industries such as poultry slaughtering and steel manufacturing to keep a log of workplace injuries and maintain them for five years. These logs are vital to preventing future injuries: they are road maps for employers and workers to recognize the hazards that have caused the injuries.

Now, Congress is poised to pass legislation that would undo the OSHA recordkeeping requirements that unquestionably make life safer for workers and help responsible employers. If President Trump signs this bill, injury recordkeeping will become, in effect, voluntary. More workers will be injured and responsible employers who choose to keep accurate records and are committed to worker safety will be hurt."

"OSHA’s recordkeeping requirements will become virtually unenforceable and employers who deliberately fail to record large numbers of injuries will not be held accountable."

"The logs are also important for OSHA inspectors, who, when they begin an inspection, first look at the log to identify hazards that have already been responsible for injuring workers.

Beyond this use as a roadmap to prevent injuries, a firm’s injury data can have an important impact on its business success. In many instances, companies compete for contracts -- from building bridges to overhauling oil refineries -- by showing they have lower injury rates."

"Employer injury logs are also the basis for the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ national injury estimates.  Inaccurate and incomplete logs will make it impossible to set effective national workplace safety strategies."

"OSHA recordkeeping rules are essential to protecting the safety and health of one of the nation’s greatest assets: our workers.  President Trump has often expressed his support for workplace safety. Rejecting this legislation would make that support meaningful."

"Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano is being kept off the air indefinitely amid the controversy over his unverified claims that British intelligence wiretapped Trump Tower at the behest of former President Obama."

"People familiar with the situation who could speak only on the condition of anonymity said Napolitano is not expected to be on Fox News Channel any time in the near future. Napolitano was not available for comment."

But the big news here is we've finally learned ther's lies too heinous even for FAUX. That's astounding. I thought that was a bottomless pit.

Napolitano == another busted lying sack of crap IMO who took the lying too far.

As yo mama used to say, "It's only funny until someone gets an eye put out."

Devin Nunes said today he had never heard of Page and Stone. Oops, caught in a lie (story from last month):

"The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee responded to critics who demanded answers after three former advisors to President Donald Trump were named in a New York Times report that alleged they had contact with Russian officials.

Congressman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said on "Your World" that his committee would not partake in a "McCarthyism witch hunt" just because one press report made allegations against American citizens.

Nunes said he will not immediately subpoena former convention manager Paul Manafort Jr., former advisor Roger Stone nor former campaign consultant Carter Page before his committee after their names appeared in the Times' report."

http://insider.foxnews.com/amp/article/54569

And then there's this:

"Priebus reportedly went to the FBI director, James Comey, who allegedly also refused to comment publicly. Priebus then allegedly asked both if he could quote them anonymously as “top intelligence officials”, saying the story was totally wrong. According to CNN, McCabe and Comey agreed to let him do that, despite the fact that the FBI and the White House are prohibited from communicating about open investigations.

The White House then turned to other intelligence officials and to members of Congress. According to the Washington Post, House and Senate intelligence committee chairs Devin Nunes and Richard Burr were asked to push back against Russian stories that did not favor the administration. They told the Post they did so."

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/25/trump-russia-fbi-white-house-priebus

Do these clowns really think people are not going to notice their lies?

We need an independent investigation. It's quite clear to everyone from today's hearing, the Republicans' strategy is to concentrate on the leaks occurring and to downplay what's really important, the Russian ties and connections.

More about Nunes from last month:

"In a series of statements yesterday, Nunes didn't just express confidence in Flynn; he lashed out at those who persisted in seeing differently.

In a Fox interview, Nunes accused the press of "maliciously" attacking Flynn and blamed the unraveling disaster on "an unprecedented number of leaks.” Worse, after Flynn's resignation, Nunes immediately sought to swivel the spotlight from Flynn's alleged misconduct to the shenanigans by which the FBI allegedly uncovered it: “I expect for the FBI to tell me what is going on, and they better have a good answer,” said Nunes, according to the Post. “The big problem I see here is that you have an American citizen who had his phone calls recorded.”

Well, no. That’s not the big problem. But Nunes is right that there are a troubling things happening here involving forces well beyond Flynn.

Even if unintentionally, Nunes’s attempt to transform a major national security scandal into a surveillance scandal misleads the public on the activities of the IC. Irrespective of how information about the calls between Flynn and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak was leaked, there is no way that Nunes is unaware that calls involving key Russian diplomats like Kislyak are monitored as a matter of routine. (And if Nunes is unaware of this, he has no business on, much less chairing, House Intelligence). So far, sources say that Flynn was not the target of the taps, and the fact that Flynn’s identity was ascertained signifies no legal mischief whatsoever under FISA, as David Kris explains. As far as Nunes or the public yet knows, Nunes pointed the finger at the IC here for nothing more than doing its job, in what appears to have been a short-sighted effort to shift blame.

I don't think any lie is too heinous for Fox. The difference here is they were caught with this being a lie. Napolitano is of no use to them now. He has no credibility, even for Fox.

"Federal investigators are examining whether far-right news sites played any role last year in a Russian cyber operation that dramatically widened the reach of news stories — some fictional — that favored Donald Trump’s presidential bid, two people familiar with the inquiry say.

Operatives for Russia appear to have strategically timed the computer commands, known as “bots,” to blitz social media with links to the pro-Trump stories at times when the billionaire businessman was on the defensive in his race against Democrat Hillary Clinton, these sources said.

The bots’ end products were largely millions of Twitter and Facebook posts carrying links to stories on conservative internet sites such as Breitbart News and InfoWars, as well as on the Kremlin-backed RT News and Sputnik News, the sources said. Some of the stories were false or mixed fact and fiction, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the bot attacks are part of an FBI-led investigation into a multifaceted Russian operation to influence last year’s elections."

Maybe if the Trump admin would quit with the lying and coverups, there would be no embarrassing leaks. Just a thought.

This administration has some serious problems.

Maybe if the Trump admin would quit with the lying and coverups, there would be no embarrassing leaks. Just a thought.

This administration has some serious problems.

Not even the Republicans are denying what is being leaked is the truth. What the Republicans are saying is they don't want the truth to be leaked so what does that leave you with, corruption they don't want anyone to know about.

The question that still lingers is the FBI's Russian investigation began in July. On October 28th, Comey announces a new FBI investigation of Hillary e-mails. What made him decide to announce the Hillary investigation and not the Russian investigation? You would think he wouldn't say anything about any new FBI investigation. Although it is not known as fact yet, it has been suspected that Giuliani was behind or somehow connected to having Comey making the announcement about the new Hillary investigation.

This had been reported:

"Appearing on Fox News on Oct. 25, top Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani could barely contain his excitement as he teased a blockbuster development that would shake up the presidential race in the GOP nominee’s favor.

“Does Donald Trump plan anything except a series of inspiring rallies?” Brian Kilmeade, host of “Fox & Friends,” asked.

“Yes,” Giuliani replied with a massive grin.

“What?” co-host Ainsely Earhardt curiously asked.

“Ha ha ha,” Giuliani laughed. “You’ll see.”

The former New York City mayor promised, “We got a couple of surprises left. . . . And I think it’ll be enormously effective.”

He continued: “I think [Trump’s] got a surprise or two that you’re going to hear about in the next few days. I’m talking about some pretty big surprises. . . .  And I do think that all of these revelations about Hillary Clinton finally are beginning to have an impact.

Three days later, on Oct. 28, Comey’s letter to congressional leaders about the FBI’s review of the new Clinton emails was leaked by Republicans.

And now this Friday morning, Giuliani returned to “Fox & Friends,” giddy over the tightening of polls in battleground states.

Echoing reports that FBI agents supportive of Trump’s campaign had been enraged by Comey’s decision in July to not file criminal charges against the former secretary of state for her use of a private email server, Giulani told Fox News that “outraged FBI agents” had complained to him about how the Clinton investigation had been handled and thought Comey’s latest “bombshell” announcement would have come sooner.

“To tell you the truth, I thought it was going to be three or four weeks ago,” he said.

Unprompted, Giuliani then attempted to distance himself from appearing to have played a role in orchestrating the last-minute October surprise.

“I did nothing to get it out; I had no role in it,” Giuliani said. “Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it, and I can’t even repeat the language that I heard from the former FBI agents.”

The suspicion is that Giuliani worked with some rogue FBI agents in setting something up. Kind of strange too that Giuliani is now the head of U.S. cybersecurity. We've haven't heard anything from him or about him in quite a while either.

The following article, written by "Seth Abramson, Attorney; Assistant Professor at University of New Hampshire; Poet; Editor, Best American Experimental Writing; Editor, Metamodern Studies", appeared in The Huffington Post and it is quite revealing:

"Was Rudy Giuliani At The Center Of An FBI-Trump Campaign Conspiracy To Steal The Election?

Stealing elections is all the wingnuts have left.

Supreme Court stole 2000 for GW Bush and now the Russians and criminal Trump accomplices stole this one.

They've only won the popular vote once in like the last 24 years. The population as a whole hates them. Only criminality keeps them in the running.

Good news is the criminal actions of this past election are about to be exposed. And better yet for the long term is this criminal cohort of wingnut politicians and voters dumb enough to vote for them is rapidly dying off.
