Last night the new book at BTP was released and it looks like 20% reduction in purses across the board.  Looked at the overnight at Hazel this morning and guess what..... 25% reduction across the board.  My horses fit those tracks so I guess I keep running, but this is clearly not a good time to expand the barn.

The day is coming when these cheap tracks will just go bust ......Del Mar Saratoga Belmont Keenland Churchill Gulfstream are really all you need .....get rid of them junk tracks with them cripples and bad jocks .......the remaining tracks would have fuller fields and the closed places would just simulcast the top racing  live racing is over saturated with 6 horse fields ...... It's called survival of the fittest.......contraction is not always bad......

I have always felt there was a place for small tracks.  After all, most of the horses, jocks, owners and trainers are either not qualified enough or funded well-enough to make it at the tracks you have listed.  But I am afraid your point is one I need to start looking at.  In the case of Belterra, the new casino revenue is half of what they expected--and hence the cut.  I don't know about Hazel for sure.  But I believe that was going to be short-term anyway.

The fields at the big tracks would not be any fuller, because less horses overall would be bred. And guess what? Of those remaining, the same bell curve of good average and bad would apply ... and the bad horses on the bottom would have nowhere to run but those big tracks, and those big tracks would have to make races for them because that's all there is for horses.

Maybe, Terry, there's a bell curve within the bell curve.

That is, a smaller one inside the right side of the original curve.
