It was a great mile, but it was only a track record. Incidentally, he does share the WR for an aged pacing gelding with Life Source and Color Me Best (1:48).
Still, it was the fastest mile ever paced in California's history. The previous track record at Los Al was either 1:51.1 or 1:51.2 (Red Bow Tie and Hi Ho Silverheel's), and before ERK, the track record at Expo was Givemewhatineed at 1:50.
