Is Connell Willis still around?  He used to know his way around an oval with a trotter.

For some reason, Wayne Temple is coming to mind too - maybe I'm just lucid right now

Temple has NO drives ( not even Q's or fairs ) since 9-04.
He is at Balmoral frequently.

Years ago, it had to be Daryl Busse. Believe it or not,  Dave Maxwell was exceptional also on the trots.

Petro, Jim Eaton would be so disappointed you didn't include him in your trainers list. the best driver in Chicago is Dave Magee, trot/pace whatever. He's one of the few people I have ever known to let his talent do all the talking. Trotters are much more hit and miss though, because a great trotter will overcome all obstacles.....i.e. Rock Creek and my my very good late friend George Dempsey. I loved George but after harnessing one he was about done.

Connell is often helping Nelson out.  You can find him in Nelson's barn most mornings.

John "the rocket" Reese used to be handy on a trotter in his day.  What is he up to now??

I agree with bobcat , victor pegues is the best trot man ever ! i've watched him trot to the bar and never go offstride carrying 3 or 4 beers to consume . he staggers sometimes but never makes a break , especially to his pocket . plus he can lite up a cigarette without spilling a drop .

Dave Magee is the best driver,Andy Miller a close second,Tim Tetrick runs too much, hes lucky Welch is trainning his drives. Jason shows talent but is timid.Eric Ledford was great,Mike O,getting better,Ryan Anderson has talent.

Trainers,Roger Welch stands out, trains a small number of horses and they all make it to the top level and they shine on big purse races and he can drive also,Homer H. ruins more than he makes, treats them like machines,Eaton still back in the 70s.He spends alot of money on yearlings and gets no return, needs to watch RW closer,Erv Miller, starts with the best and the most expensive, but how many make it? If they make it,they are tough!

RTP & Bobcat,

Not only could Victor carry three beers from the bar at Maywood and bum a cigarette and matches off of you, he can also hit you up for twenty in the lane with the whip tucked away!!!!

I have heard ALOT of great stories about Elwood Magee, so I will put him on my list.  Best at driving a trotter in chicago now, I would have to day Dave Magee.

Is it just me, or do those Magee's have talent!!
