$750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I, Race 10, 4:50 p.m.), 3 & Up, 1 1/4 Miles
PP. Horse, Weight, Jockey, ML Odds
1. Lava Man (CA), 124, Corey S. Nakatani, 4/5
2. Magnum (ARG), 118, Patrick A. Valenzuela, 2/1
3. Seek Gold (KY), 117, Calvin H. Borel, 8/1
4. Ace Blue (BRZ), 113, Victor Espinoza, 20/1
5. Super Frolic (KY), 116, Jon K. Court, 4/1

at  10f lava man may be vulnerable, specially since he is in detention, as doug oneil was guilty of animal cruelty in testing positive for a milkshake. (yet he serves no time in jail for cruelty or interferring with the outcome of a sporting event, THAT MUST change)

who do you like here, following is an article that gives you all the details

This is a perfect reason why horse racing is not what it used to be....In the past you'd at least get 8 or 9 in this field.  Now, it's 5.   Unreal.....

OK, the question is, Why? Trainers don't like the weights? Why didn't anyone ship in? They can't be that afraid of Lava Man, can they?

Well, looking at the other horses....

Magnum - gave LM all he could handle in the SA Handicap.  The race at Lone Star was impressive given the surface   He had 7 pound break in weights in SA Handi to run second.   needs to step up again to compete.

Seek Gold - loves to come off the pace.   Might not be much pace to run at here.    The time in Foster is not normal for G1 type dirt horses.

Ace Blue - hasn't won in over a year.   No chance.

Super Frolic - might have peaked in the BC Classic when his Beyer hit 108.   Ran flat in the Donn and then shipped to Dubai.   He was bad there and the race back was ok, but not up to this field.    Might be the only horse in the field that can go with LM for a mile on the front.

Seek gold changed trainers just befroe his win in the grade1 Sfoster,
will he progress for his new trainer or was tht one just an aberation ? i dunno. he was closing at 9f and looked like jazil just getting started for his run in the 10th f. he might be the one to bet on for a good price.

Magnum was 3/4 back in second when he chased LM in the grade 1 SAH, that was at 10f, he closed from 6 back and was gaining at the wire,
that was SA, how does that transfer to pollywood ?

Ace blue seems to be filler, he gets 15,000 for a 5th, and it cost 7500 to enter, if he walks around, he wins even money, 7500 to get in,
walk around, 15,000 to cross the wire, not a bad days pay.

super frolic had his prep for this in the californian, a second to
dixie miester at 9f. other than him beating the claiming crown horses at hawthorne, what has he done in the last couple of years.

trifecta, 123 box, lava man is an oniel horse, was he doped,?
look at his record before he jumped over to oneil.
he will be in detention this time, will it matter,
or will oneils house or cards be brought to the forefront
and his cheating game be on display, if this one runs the
             way he did in japan.

just for the return, you may want to assume he was doped and go with 2,3,5 boxed tri, you may loose 12, but the upside will be great.

or play em both for 24 dollars, 48 for $2.

Speaking of short fields - did anyone see the field for the Swaps this weekend?   4 horses with Point Determined and AP Warrior being the best of the bunch.

"750k and only 5 horses, shame on cali phony ah"

And a G1 to boot!

But California racing shouldn't have to shoulder the whole blame. Remember the year they doubled the Million purse and drew seven head? Trainers are all about dodging competion these days.

Saturday features

Hollywood -get to see Lava Man
Belmont - 250k sprint stake
AP -40k stake  Grin

Belmont and Hollywood have maiden races with a bigger purse than the AP feature  Grin

Since we are about the 1/2 way point of the meet let's look at the trainer standings:
Catalano,Tomillo,Janks,Williamson,Yanez,Kirby,Block,Robertson,Rivelli,Hinsley.
No these aren't the Hawthorne standings they are the standings from the " jewel of the midwest" Arlington Park.  Roll Eyes
Perhaps a Chicago-based horse will win a Claiming Crown race and make us all proud.
Now put on those AP t-shirts and grab an 8 dollar hotdog and get ready to cover your eyes as the horses approach the 1/4 pole.

there is something wrong at AP, things aren't done there to benefit the fans or expand the game. its a situation that is kept very closed and close to the vest. imo, somethnig fishy going on there, and the way races are carded and scheduled needs to be looked at by an audit panel. they need to address the whole sport , not just turf. their refusal to change is an indication, imo, of something less than full public disclosure of all the facts regarding the races, i question the legality of what they are doing, and wonder just who is getting rich on the scene.

Arlington Park is the best track to watch the races. As for the quality, I give th edge to Far east/west tracks, however, there are some hard knockers here and YES, you'll see Chicago horses do very well in the Claiming Crown.

well in hindsight the bet was obviously LM over all in an exacta,
exacta paid almost $40 for a $2  bet. exacta Lm/All for $20 = $80,
return $400. a three to one score on a 1 to 5 favorite. oh well....
granted the place horse was the longest odds in the race 24 to 1.
still it hurts to miss a apyoff like this knowing how good LM is,
and this is important, how good he is in CALIFORNIA.

No, I bet that race AND watched the board. The bet was over AND under without the 1-5 and scratch the 2. Please note, he won by a nose and the 4-1 was paying plenty.

If you wanted to BE SURE to cash on LM you MUST have put him over AND UNDER and scratch that overbet Magnum. Magnum was the sucker horse.
