Really it used to be you had a horse pace in 55 or 54 in first couple starts you had something special.  Know their qualifying that fast at the end of May.  Hell the good trotters are that fast in there first few starts.  Yes we have seen the sign of the times.

Yeah, that crisp $20 bill has been watered down, too.

Anyone remember getting $20 as a kid in the 60's?

Felt like a million dollars.

After all these years this saying still holds true no matter how you look at it. Class means a lot more....love when you see a 10 claimer beat a bunch of his own 'class" by open lengths one week in 49 then they move him up to a 20 claimer & finish back in 51 a week later & everyone thinks they're stiffing LOL

fractions are a huge factor also  how many times have you seen a dumb driver set huge fractions  and a horse comes from the pack to win in an amazing time.  next time out 3 seconds slower abd bet down as the favorite and losses

All of that may be true, but 20 claimers don't go 47 and 48 week after week. That is reserved for the top dogs.

There was a 40-50 claimer that went in 47/4 (Real Joke) who was definitely not a top CLASS horse....
