HV, I respect your opinion greatly so perhaps you can advise me.
I have a big presentation August 2nd and I've been restricted from travel by my boss. Is it better to arrive on weekdays when the crowds are smaller? Are the races just that good there? Or would you advise targeting a different weekend (arrive on Friday return on Monday?).
I fly into Albany on a Tuesday and leave as late as possible on Monday, less crowds and cheaper airfare.
A couple of years ago, I dragged my work PC with me and worked Wednesday and Thursday from the house we rented, while all my buds went to the races. It was torture, but it was the only way I could make it happen.
"Are the races just that good there?" -- I think you might mean, are the races just *as* good during the week, and if so I have two answers:
* there is at least one
stakes race every day*, if those are important to you, and,
* I think I find better wagering opportunities on weekdays than on weekends; we hit one P4 in particular that paid $2900+ on a Wednesday that we agreed wouldn't have paid more than $1000 if it was Saturday instead.
"Regular" Saturdays and Sundays can be quite crowded, and more than once we have decided to bail and head over to the harness track for a table in the restaurant, for simulcasting, buffet, A/C, and an overall touch of civility.
Staying for the Monday card is a special treat, after a crowded and crazy weekend -- it's pretty nice when all the tourists are gone.
Hope this helps.
: stakes race every day, yes, but now many are not graded, with lots of glorified allowance races for NY-breds. Sorry for the mistake.
