I give up drinking every Lent, about 10 years ago I started doing the Atkins diet while I gave up drinking.
I did this for about 6 years straight and lost around 15 lbs every Lent.
Easy as pie.
The problem I had was the lack of Carbs in my system caused my serotonin levels to drop.
Serotonin is basically needed in the body to keep you happy and on an even keel.
Well, any way I started getting panic attacks and was very anxious.
Kinda freaked me out because I've always been pretty healthy.
I went to the doctor and he prescribed medication which straightened me out after a while.
My body eventually reacted negatively to not having Carbs, so I quit doing Atkins, (still give up drinking for the lent tho  beer)
What happened to me may not happen to you.
The bottom line is, talk to your doctor before starting this diet or any diet for that matter.
Good luck..

I get cranky when I give up the carbs in beer. Maybe it is the same thing!

Woody was a favorite of mine -- until he married his daughter.  screwy

Ditto!  He turned into a creep right there.  Funny or not.

It's been three and a half months on the diet and here are Mick's numbers.

Pounds lost and have stayed lost = 20 lbs
Average weight for two months = (170 - 175 lbs)
Triglycerides before and after = (before 486 - after 105)
A1C before and after = (before 7.2 - after 5.8)

This diet is logical for me.

Wow Mick, that is very impressive.  I admire you for sticking to it.  That is hard for most people to do.

Since I am at a fair meet, I am eating fair food during the day and will have to do some serious correction when I get home!  But it's only once a year and how can you not enjoy the bad fair food?

Keep up the good work, you are eating your way into good health!

Thanks pammy

What is important is the numbers.   My doctor wanted me to go on Metaformin and my health was deteriorating prior to the diet.   Now the trend has been broken and a dramatic trend in the right direction is in evidence.

Plus I love everything that I eat.   Occasionally, I treat myself to a pizza or sandwich but I'd say that was twice each over 3.5 months.   If I cannot enjoy what I eat, why bother.  I will just roll over, but I am fighting the disease (diabetes) and keeping ahead of it.  I don't think I can ever beat it, just treat it with a healthy lifestyle.

Good news thus far, Steak and Woody is still working for me.

I've found that a modified low carb diet (eating carbs which include a lot of fiber) is still working for me.   Thirteen months after weighing in at 195, I weighed in this morning at 168.   Next month I go back in for blood tests but I've had my diabetes numbers checked three times and the A1C numbers are always comfortably in the good range.   For several years the numbers getting higher and I was above the danger 6.5 level and over 7.

It's never too late to work on your health, take a lesson from an old man geezer.   Read up and figure out how to live healthy on your own.   BTW, I am eating everything that I enjoy.   I had a spinach and feta omlette with pork sausage with fresh brewed (Trader Joe's Columbian) coffee for breakfast today.

Good for you for sticking to it!

I just laughed about the all bacon diet because I bought some "Man Hands" bacon soap for a joke for my kids and some bacon gumballs.

My youngest son's girlfriend is a vegetarian and was disgusted.  She might be HISTORY soon, if I have anything to say about it.  It's OK to be disgusted, but not in front of her boyfriend's mother.

I will say I didn't try the deep fried chocolate bacon at the Pleasanton fair this year, but only because it was too dang hot out there.  It sounds so disgusting that I just wanted a bite.

Keep up the good work!  I'm glad it's making you healthier.
