The raising of prices on certain days is ridiculous.  Admission should always be free.  The only day they should possibly raise the price is for fireworks.  If you're a horseplayer stay away that day unless you have a seat.

Stay away altogether. Piss poor management and bad racing surface.

You left off the most important piece Rusty. I got your back.

What a STUPID comparison.

Just watching horses run in a circle without having any wagers can hardly be considered "entertainment", and bettors pay plenty enough already via bet commissions (of which AP's take is roughly 7 cents on the dollar).

Do the Sox hit their patrons the whole game for additional fees, whenever they score a run or turn a double play?  screwy

You make very little sense -- especially with the "those in glass houses" tag line. Do you know what that means, or how it is supposed to be used?

I said the AP crowd doesn't bet much per capita -- but if they are betting modest sums (and maybe buying an overpriced sandwich and beer), they are already giving AP enough money to cover their presence, their fair use of the facility.

Redundant admissions charges make NO sense at racetracks and casinos -- they just strip the patron of funds that could be applied towards bets. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

But they won't be higher priced than normal.

HV you are so right! Spending a day at AP can't possibly be entertaining. Certainly not nearly as much as watching millionaires swing bats at baseballs. Tell that to the very large Mother's Day crowd at AP today - they all paid those exorbitant fees to get in and bring in food. Just stay away.

Amusement parks and fairs let Mom's in free, so wouldnt it be the right thing for tracks to let Mom's in free?
Arlingtons prices in general are ridiculous. Only tracks I have seen that charge higher prices are the California tracks and Fairs.

I vaguely remember that ladies used to get in free at AP on Mother's Day, too. Anyone else remember that?

That's more than those filing into The United Center will get on Monday.

No Rose, though a high percentage of their ticket price will go to paying his salary.

(And, to freeze their asses off, too, don't forget. Yum.)

How many in attendance today? Used to be 25,000 to 30,000 for Mother's Day, standard...but when the cameramen avoid showing shots of the grandstand like they did today, my suspicion is that attendance was disappointing.

I was there while you were sitting home in your jammies. I don't know what the attendance was. but in by my view of the crowd and the near full parking lots it will be +20K. That's about 100x the attendance of what your favorite local track would have drawn. *** on!

You mean, AP is better than Hawthorne? Wow, that was close!

I heard your wife thinks you are slightly better in bed than Bobcat Goldthwait, another close one.

The problem with 20,000 in attendance at AP for Mother's Day is that the number is LIGHT by about 10 - 15K -- the cool weather notwithstanding. Comparisons to Hawthorne are simply a ridiculously weak sauce.

I don't think its light considering it felt like winter out there today...I for one did not go today with my family & would have had the weather been nicer....
Sure I am not the only one...& if there were 20k+ that is a good crowd....I doubt any other track in USA had larger on track crowd yesterday.

Look at the White Sox- one of the best pitchers in the major league throws a brilliant 1 hitter on the national ESPN game & the announced crowd was 22K-which includes season tickets sold...From watching on TV,  I would say about 1/2 that amount.

In the overall scheme of things, who gives a rats  censor.....

& why can't AP be compared to Hawthorne, Balmoral, Maywood etc?Huh?

According to my sources yesterday's crowd was bigger than Derby day. Unfortunately Mother's Day crowds do not bet much more than $2 per race, which I guess is why they pay what we believe are ridiculous amounts to attend an activity; not a day at the races.

What that crowd spends on admissions and concessions, by far, makes up for their small wagers.

Well, which is it? We don't care how they compare, or we do?

You think RLD spent all that money so that his place can be thought of as slightly better than Haw, Bmlp or May?

If that's the case, then I'd say that you are slightly more intelligent than clockerbob, and slightly more lucid than John Frank.
