Mets starting pitching looks as though it's the strongest part of the team.
They have no position players in the pipeline or anywhere close. They need to focus on those areas. I am in the minority, because I realize Murphy is a great guy and teammate but he is not the answer defensively for this team. The top needs are: OF, SS, and 2B.

I wouldn't call it totally bare, Cesar Puello has been a stud at .323, 15, 55 and hes a right fielder.  Allan Dykstra has had a break out year and could be trade bait or depth if they finally end the Ike experiment in favor of Josh Satin.  The best of Vegas is already up.  It looks like Leathersich is having a hard time with those dry desert balls.  8 hits in 10.2 innings but 7 walks.  He's still striking people out at an amazing clip however.  19 in that 10.2 for a rate of 16.8 per 9.

I just hope they go the free agent route. It took way too long to build their farm system, and it's finally getting respectable now. I am more in favor of trading players they have now with value. Some of these players value are at an all time high right now, and that includes Parnell.

murphy's defense has been good  he gets a reputation because he learned the position but i say he looks good not great or bad

Parnell will never be worth more than he is now.  He's no Mariano.  Closers don't stay great for long.  Really look at Jose Valverde.  2 years ago he had 49 saves.  He's in Toledo now. All the more reason Parnell is EXPENDABLE.  Murphy has gotten better.  You need the bat.

I heard RedSox want Parnell bad. They have some top prospects which would be great fits for the Mets in 2014 or 2015.

you've got 2 guys in the minors that would be lights out as closers.  Jack does need to get a better handle on control.  Part of his Vegas issues could be the dry balls and not getting a solid grip any which way he's gotta figure it out, he has a ton of talent and they really need to get this guy his confidence back.  Last night in Salt Lake City was ugly.  Not sure cause he's sure striking out a ton of guys.  They aren't hitting the ball off him.  It's walks.  Jeff Walters is 4-2 with 22 saves in his first full year as a closer in Binghamton.   He's 22 of 24 in save situations.  We'll see how Vegas goes.

My primary concern with this case is not with any of the two names above but rather with one of our own, Cesar Puello. As someone who covers the minors on a daily basis, Im tired of this dark cloud that hangs over Puello right now. The BioGenesis clinic was shut down already and as someone who was under suspicion, I think its safe to assume hes had to deal with frequent tests. I truly believe the results of the 2013 season have been due to his hard work and John Bernhardt, one of my colleagues who is frequently at the Binghamton games, would agree with me. Puello has always had the tools to succeed and hes finally turning potential into performance. If he is to be suspended, so be it, and I look forward to writing about him again next season.

I don't want to keep him.  I want fair value.  He's a valuable commodity.  More valuable in a trade than he'll ever be to a Mets pennant race.

what's lost in this with the emergence of Hefner and Wheeler and the coming of age of Gee, Mets brass will be forced to upgrade the offense in the off season.  Citi will burn if they put the same team on the field next year.
