I don't watch much Thistledown, but I was thumbing through some live racing before heading out to AP today. 1 MTP the odds look similar to this:

1-16/1 (ML 6-1)
2-2-1 (ML 3-1)
3-10/1 (ML 12-1)
4-15/1 (ML 10-1)
5-12/1 (ML 8-1)
6-9/1 (ML 6-1)
7-3/1 (ML 4-1)
8-6/1 (ML 7/2)

There is no doubles money on the #3 horse at all, and he's flat in exotics. Before they spring, someone drops 3k across on the horse and he is crushed down to 1/2. He does very little running and finishes off the board. WPS show payoffs are very large. I caught a race there about a month ago, where someone did the same thing betting about 1,500 on a no shot horse and causing large payoffs. At first I thought it could've just been some lunatic in vegas trying to get even, but the 2nd instance makes me think twice. Is this someone betting through a bookie trying to fatten their odds?

If I had to guess - and this assumes that the bettor isn't just plain stupid, it'd be somebody playing offshore into a different pool that pays based on the mutuel price

Probably someone bet offshore on the horse they liked......3k across is alot to junk off because most places limit any cashes at Thistle to 2,500 or 5,000 max.....He would have had to play at multiple sites and more importantly actually pick the winner of the race......Even if he did he won't get paid.....There is a disclaimer that any type of odds manipulation and they dont have to pay......Plus many of those sites while under different names are all owned by the same entities
