It's been nearly a year.

If they found anything..........it hasn't been released.

You'd have thought some reporter somewhere would have followed up with the Lake County sherriff on that by now, a year after the fact.

I often have wondered too what occurred. Eddie was a great person who left us too early. Never saw any press after this tragic event occurred. R I P Eddie.

It is kind of unusual that a fairly well-known sports personality would perish in a fire that the Fire Marshal called "suspicious", or however it was put, and then zippo ever on the follow up.

But I guess what can you expect out of The Daily Herald and the other NW suburban rags?

The last official word we got was that the origin of the fire was "suspicious". I think, if you're a fire official and say that in the press, and it's a well-known individual who perished, it's kind of incumbent on you to close that out publicly at some point if indeed your investigation turns up solid evidence of no wrong doing (which of course we do NOT know, how can we?)

Don't you think?

And...isn't Eddie Razo's wife the daughter of a top official from the Long Grove FPD?

"Leave them alone?" Nonsense. This thing was *screaming* for an investigation, right away. We just want to know if a proper investigation actually happened, and let's have the report so we can have a look.

Full disclosure. The fire cost Eddie Razo his life; he deserves no less.

I think the official silence on this matter speaks volumes. Enough said. Time to move on.

I did hear that a certain Chicago journalist had a juicy story after some investigating, but it was never let out.

A disservice is done to the family by any official silence. Make a statement. Either it was an accident, the investigation is ongoing, or there was foul play.  Silence leads to the post above - I hear..... and Eddie's memory and his family are subjected to suspicion and innuendo.

File your FOIA request, and bring the info back to us, please.

There were lots of rumors but light on actual facts.

I agree with Horse Voice and Terry.  This is a story that has no ending yet.  The individual who died was too well known and liked to let the story die with him.  Otherwise, we get "juicy rumors" and misinformation on a story that should have an ending, one way or another.

You who feel a need to know could be wrong.   When you say that you are concerned about the family, the family may be the ones pushing to supress the  information.  This advice comes from personal experience.   Unless you know the family and they have concerns, leave it alone.

Freedom of information, not living in China, the press hiding things, that happens every day of the week on things that should matter more to you than this poor man and his families troubles.

Wasn't he in the process of applying for a jockey agent's license?

1) Betting public needs to know what happened, IMHO.

2) Tax dollars at work here.

If I am wrong............gimme the business.

With all due respect, Mick, I'm old enough and worldly enough that I don't really need or want guidance from anyone else on "what should matter more" to me.

I bet the Chicago racing product, I have for years, and one of its jockeys died under very suspicious circumstances (that's how the press characterized the situation, not me).

I may damn well need to know what happened to Mr. Razo, or not, but...until some sort of information regarding the nature of the explosion and fire at his residence is released, how can I possibly decide this?

Your plea for giving his family their peace, their privacy, is poignant but completely misplaced: once Mr. Razo was licensed as a jockey, he became a "public figure"...maybe not as well known and followed as say, Barack Obama, but with pretty much the same loss of the expectation of privacy.

If his death involved some sort of malfeasance, the betting public *absolutely* has a right to know about it, in unfiltered form...even if it is painful or embarrassing to his family.
