My opinion, we need that "CARTEL" handle...that is what allows guys like me to bet 500-600 dollars worth of action at times into the race.
You can't do that elsewhere...

How much of the 3 million is "CARTEL" money?

Joe Faraldo is a windbag.   He has done zero for the sport.   I would rate his performance as a negative on every scale imaginable.

Bring on the handle, that is what matters for the bulk of the players.

Juice , its not spin , it is what it is . How is it there handling as well as they are and zero talk of a purse hike . Going back to his open letter last week , wanting competing tracks to try to work together for the betterment of the Mlds . He forgets that for years the mlds was set on burying Yonkers .

THIS IS FARALDO GETTING IN THE MIDDLE OF GURAL AND THE HORSEMEN AT THE MEADOWLANDS, THE HORSEMEN GOD DAMN AGREED TO THIS DEAL BEFORE IT WAS ENACTED.

THIS ISN'T THE CURE ALL BUT IT ISN'T KILLING ANYONE EITHER.

THEY WOULDN'T HAVE ANY EXTRA HANDLE AND THEREFORE THAT 17,000 EXTRA PER NIGHT FOR THE PURSE ACCOUNT WOULD BE ZERO OR LESS BECAUSE WITHOUT THE CARTEL OTHER "WHALES" WOULDN'T BET IT AT ALL.

I dont disagree with you for once Pig , But Im referring to before Yonkers got the slots . If you were stabled at Mlds and wanted to ship one to Yonkers , you very politely you could go stable your horse at Yonkers . If you wanted to ship the same horse anywhere else it was usually NO Problem .This was a well known fact .

This is old news.   This is a damn attack since Jeff sent that letter to horsemen.   It is disgusting by Faraldo and the corruption that follows him.

http://www.drf.com/news/bergman-meadowlands-stock-rise

Quote
On a different subject, McNamara confirmed the presence of a new “cartel” that had been the focus of the Meadowlands offering rebates to promote handle.

“There’s a group of four guys who came forward and offered to wager $300,000 a night,” said McNamara. “This group is not a bunch of handicappers but computer guys who are looking for the right odds to wager on.”

McNamara suggested that the Meadowlands, with horsemen’s approval, sign an agreement with this small group much like they would with any other off-track entity. This means that the horsemen’s share of this money is in the neighborhood of between one and two percent of handle.

What encouraged McNamara’s group to go along with the track on this venture was the hope that the increased handle would have a spinoff effect.
“We figured that other players would see the increased pool size and be able to bet with confidence,” said McNamara.

The good news for the horsemen is that the numbers as they play out currently suggest exactly that. While we can’t determine exactly how much the one new group is wagering nightly, the overall nightly exported handle has shown an increase of $850,000 per night.

The more difficult news for the horsemen is that a straight two percent return on that money would yield only an additional $17,000 per evening for the purse fund should those numbers actually hold up for the duration of the meet.

THE DIFFICULT NEWS?   WERE NONE OF THE ABLE TO DO SIMPLE MATH?   THEY SIGNED UP FOR THIS WITH ALL THE CARDS ON THE TABLE...

GET A LIFE!!!

I'm not sure the article really has any "fallacies".  It might have factual issues, but if the facts asserted are true, the article seems fair.

Did they really sell the signal for 2% to this group?  That is a serious discount.

The early money issue is silly.  I doubt even a group desperate for handle would allow an abuse of ticket cancellation.  As for "seeding" the pools with false money, any semi-sophisticated player knows likely off-time odds and what they can and can not accept.  At 2% they could afford such seeding, but it really should affect other quality players.  Cancelling, which I doubt happens in the cartel's case, is a big more troublesome.

TWO flippin' percent?  I still can't get over that.

Who is the "average" gambler?  The attend the track 5 times a year, bet $200 each time person?  Yes, very fair.  That person treats a race track visit like a game of golf or an amusement park, each costing similar.

The daily rebate chaser who bets $1000 per day, 4 days a week.  Tougher for me to say yes, but I'll hedge toward yes, it is fair.

The daily rebate chaser who bets $5000 per day 6 or 7 days a week...the 2% is a big advantage and I'm thinking this type of player who averages around 8% take might look beyond the Big M for their action.
