from Jun 23, 1948 Harness Horse and Maywood:

In one of the most spectacular happenings in the history of American sports, Maywood Park gave a wonderful surprise to women guests on the night of the $10,000 Preview Trot—beautiful Hawaiian orchid corsages.

Two huge planes were required to transport the Royal Hawaiian Princess Aloha orchids, 50,000 of the fragrant flowers from the big island of Hawaii in the Hawaiian chain, to Maywood.

Women guests filing through clubhouse and grandstand gates were amazed, swept with surprise, extremely delighted—as they were handed the large red box containing the exquisite corsages.
WBKB, Chicago television station, had its cameras focussed on the turnstiles and televized for Chicagoland the spontaneous pleasure that comes to a lady receiving an orchid.

Hawaian music filled the air and the ladies were reminded that according to Hawaiian legend, if somebody gives or sends you a Princess Aloha orchid, it is bad luck for the escort if you don't kiss him at the first opportunity.

Truly Pythonesque... the heroic/hyperbolic intro , and the immediate fall-off:

"There have been many stirring tales told of the sea... and also some fairly uninteresting ones only marginally connected with it, like this one. Sorry, this isn't a very good announcement. Sorry."

You think there was a lot of tongue-swapping going at Maywood on June 18, 1948?
