Betting on elimination races

I can understand people's complaint about unethical training methods by a few, as a bettor what bothers me more is elimination races. Races in which top 3,4, or 5 finishers make the finals. It seems drivers drive to qualify for the finals more than trying to win THAT particular race. A possible solution is to increase purse on the eliminations?

Some eliminations allow the winner to pick his/her post for the final. That makes for an OK wager, knowing they have something to win for.

Quite possibly the worst idea in harness racing. A top horse draws pp10 & outside of other top contenders. He gets a bad trip & does not win. Another good horse draws well & wins. He & other winners pick their pp & the one that had pp10 gets screwed again. Open draw in the final makes for better racing too. You don't see the T-Breds giving the best horse a choice of pp. That is what makes the Derby great.

Its the only way to do it... You have to bet accordingly.. Handicap the connections that you know will try 100 percent and the others who are happy to save something for next week.
