Mine is someone touting the horse is home free and finishes off the board.
Another thing it is not an expression but  an action.  When you bet a horse and
the guy next to you is rooting for the same one  you might as well throw your ticket
away because they hardly win.

I am just an old "Hoss" trainer, that has been raced hard and put away wet. 
As my Friend from Maine(Ora Stratton) says "There are horse trainers, and then there are real "Hoss" trainers.
