Good move for him, he was only winning at about a 4% clip in NY this past year and he's a better rider than that.

with cisco, seth, and canchari all gone the jocks colony is severely watered down. montalvo started here and is obviously well known on the backstretch, if hes willin to work in the mornings he should make alotta money this meet. emigh should win the title by default with those mentioned gone and also hes riding first call for the boogieman and becker. to no surprise the purses blow compared to last spring

Do you and your fellow horsemen have a plan to dramatically increase wagering on the product you're putting on the track, and thus EARN the bigger purses you want?

not surprised youd comment terry. ive wagered plenty the last couple years since i started owning again but maybe its time your beloved track actually market itself properly. if you hung around the track at all youd actually see that a good portion of the live handle is coming from the horsemen wagering on it considering minus the horsemen attending the races theres a average of about 3 people there daily

Hawthorne does pretty much exactly the same kind of marketing other racetracks do. And it's got a better on track rebate program than most.

It can't change where it is, or how hard it is to get to, or the air, or the background scenery.

Now that would take a lot of patience lol. I can barely last 10 starts with one these days.

But he couldn't fix that airconditioner.

Great fields for the opener.  1 with 6, 1 with 8, and the rest 9 or more.  Much better than FG on Friday,  they have 2 with 6, 3 with 7, and have 3 turf races that if taken off might only have a handful of runners.

Hope some bombs hit and we get some exotic buzz going.

Heading up first thing in the morning. My horses are both breezing Saturday for the first time since their layoff.  I plan to catch the races Friday and Saturday...undecided on Sunday. Looking forward to the meet! Good luck to everyone whether it be was an owner, trainer, or bettor.

Did they do any upgrade or serious work on the track surface?I thought that was going to be done when they closed for training that short period in January.

I haven't been there since the last weekend of the meet. I live in St Louis, so I don't go up there when there's no racing. I think a lot of people on here have their own thoughts about that subject, though. I would defer to them since they are there most days.

Back to entries, pretty damned light for Sunday.  We had better conditions next week so stayed out, but it looks like there is money to be made.

Weekend takeaways:
Nice to see Cosme have a great weekend after more than six months off from injury.
Tim Thornton picked up where he left off. Still hot as a firecracker.
Fairmount shippers did very well. Presumably because they have been able to train more regularly.

Aside from that I'm jus glad to have Illinois racing back regardless of pick 6 handle.
