Some drivers after they drive a horse can really give you good advice such as rigging, shoeing, or the condition of the horse.
I don't know about today's guys, but Bill O'donnel, Ted Wing, Lucian Fontaine, Del Insko really made great suggestions for me in the past that definately improved the horse.

IMHO,
If the trainer, owner, or groom will listen, the best is/was
Tony Morgan.

I am just an old "Hoss" trainer, that has been raced hard and put away wet.
As my Friend from Maine(Ora Stratton) says "There are horse trainers, and then there are real "Hoss" trainers.

Jim Marshall III.

One of the best angles at Freehold is to bet a horse the next time after Marshall is  on him for the firat time.  Hopefully, you will get a driver change.

Herve was the best BUT if you wanted to win you had to put another driver on.

Not too many drivers there that are better anymore and if you get Cat you also get 2-5.

Without question. Great memory for horses he's driven, too.

I know one thing for sure.  Indecision may or may not be my problem.

One of the worst is/was John Campbell. I always liked John as a driver and a nice guy but he never could tell you where a horse was off.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE'
Davey has that baby boy smile, charm, and charisma that he can look any one in the eye and tell them any thing, and they will take it as the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Compared to Tony Davey has very little hands on experience.
From a kid to when he trained a large stable Tony was always at the barn training. Davey on the other hand would seldom be seen in the morning even when he still trained a small stable.
Tony just didn't have Davey's smooth delivery.
JMHO, but I have been around the two for many decades.

I agree. Not that Davey wasn't helpful.
Morgan was the best at it and most if not all trainers thought the same.

I know Morgan can help some but he also won't drive one if he thinks he's over his head. Told me to put one back in a ten claimer after a total no try, put up Pierce and beat nw 50k life several times and lost him for 20k later on. Sometimes he thinks he knows it all, just saying. That's why he lost a lot of drives in DE.  Pierce may be a bit simple but he gives every horse a chance and if they got it, they go forward. Tetrick same thing.
