How great is it to see him back here and posting? I hate to sound cynical but I thought there was a slight chance he'd be back assuming "slight"= 100% certainty. It started off strong until January 7th rolled around. While that might not seem like a long time, that's 168 hours. 10,080 minutes, and a whopping 604,800 seconds. So don't say he didn't hold out a long time "haters!" (I begrudgingly use this word as I know he doesn't like it. Next time ill use peanut gallery.) Having him back is a blessing in so many ways. You get to learn about spotting facial expressions and hand gestures of drivers on 16" OTB TV screens, which, if you've tried, is no small task. You also get to hear firsthand accounts from his super reliable sources who may or may not be his pets. I never thought it would be possible that 7 drivers at one track would be brazen enough to fix the majority of races (as Swoo points out several races a night which are rigged), smart enough to get away with it and stay tight lipped and discrete. I didn't think it would be logical for that many guys to be fixing races together as they would have to split the money evenly amongst several ppl and that would probably result in less money for the top drivers than doing things squarely. But, in retrospect, that clearly doesn't make any sense. If a calculus professor tells me 2+2= 4 I'm going to believe him just because he's so credible- Swooey is that expert. He knows all.

Before he goes back on his hiatus, which I'm sure we all know will last for eternity as originally planned, I just thought it would be nice to let him know that he's appreciated here and we all want to allow him to come back and not feel like he's violating his promise. He's clearly a guy who easily admits when he's wrong so maybe I'm worrying about nothing.
Fellow btw members, please take the time to express your admiration for the man and how you'd love for him to post on a regular basis. He's the greatest freelance investigative harness journalist in the upper west side of oak brook and that is a fact!

Welfare recipients have long been banned from using their benefits for alcohol and tobacco.  Now state lawmakers are eyeing the vice of gambling, a move some advocates for the poor see as unnecessary and unfair, says USA Today.

Michigan legislators are debating a ban on using public assistance debit cards at ATMs in casinos.
In June, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued an executive order banning the practice.
Minnesota and Arizona also ban it.
"This money was intended to provide for basic needs for people who are truly in need," says Michigan state Sen. Bill Hardiman.  "The willingness to help drops substantially when these benefits are being abused."

Laws such as these stigmatize people collecting benefits, said Marc Cohan, litigation director for the National Center for Law and Economic Justice.  "It's a solution to a nonexistent problem that may have an inequitable impact on low-income people," he says.

In June, the Los Angeles Times reported California welfare recipients had withdrawn $1.8 million over a seven-month period from casino ATMs.
Michigan state Sen. Hardiman says he has documented $87,340 in public assistance benefits withdrawn from ATMs at Detroit's MotorCity Casino over a 12-month period.
Hardiman acknowledges many ATMs within walking distance of casinos wouldn't be affected, but he insists the change would give pause to would-be gamblers.

Say I were concerned about the overall state of IL, something much more important than horse races (in publics eye, not mine!), would it be my civic duty to report the man to the welfare office? Just bc I care sooo much, is it my obligation to ask for an investigation? Idk if I can be that big of a dick but if I were either Smolin I'd do it and laugh my ass off. Mannnn how u could get the guy barred from track! How ironic would that be??

How can they enforce such a ban

For instance, the ATMs in California casinos won't take the welfare debit cards issued/refilled by the State.

I'd guess the ones in the gas stations across the street from the casino that charge a $4 transaction fee probably do.

trophy trophy trophy WELL STATED MY FRIEND....

I think we need to print up  T shirts that say CHICAGO 7...WITH ALL 7 DRIVERS ON THE FRONT OF THE T SHIRT...
SMOLIN  TEXTING ON HIS I PAD
OOSTING WITH PHONE UP TO HIS EAR
WARREN  DOING HAND SIGNALS
WILFONG WHIPSERING IN OOSTINGS EAR

Help me fill in the rest of the 7 Pace....
I am sorry but should know the 7 like the Constitution

We could stand outside like they do at Soldier Field hawking these collector item t shirts....

I am thinking on the back of the shirt A BIG PIC OF SWOOEY HOLDING HIS UFO HURRYCANE  (UFO HURRYCANE SHEDS PRECIOUS SECONDS WHEN MAKING A DASH TO THE BETTING WINDOW) & PHONE UP TO HIS EAR CALLING THE IRB

& MAYBE POINTING THE CANE AT IRA who is holding a Culvers concrete mixer.

I know that is an expensive shirt to make with lots of artwork but I would proudly wear mine whenever going to the track..

Maybe LUC can bankroll this money making venture laughing guy laughing guy

Don't forget...

Kyle Husted and Marcus Miller took a picture together and posted it on Facebook.
AND
Marcus Miller once considerd dating Kyle Wilfongs current girlfriend.
AND
Kyle Wilfong and Kyle Husted are good friends because they both share the same first name... So obviously there's a bond there.
SO
When Marcus lost as the chalk in the first leg of the pick 5 the other night with Kyle Wilfong pulling first over to block the outer flow and Kyle Husted won on a 7-1 horse that showed a 2.43 second form reversal the fix was OBVIOUSLY in!

Idk the mag 7 either, I actually don't think Wilfongs in it but I'm unsure, I know Marcus was in it. JDZ knows the mag 7, he's a big fan too. I would def buy the shirt but would almost prefer to go 75$ a pop w/ a few others to nominate a race in his honor, obv titled "The Citizen Cane Pace". We could even get some gold spray paint and cover a McD's large cup with it before handing it to the winning connections. I'm not sure that winning connections would understand why some local degenerates have handed them "trophy" after winning a NW3. We'd all have to get canes for the winner circle picture. I think it's 300$. It seems he watches Bal regularly n not May so much, idk if they offer the race nomination thing like May does but would like to be pretty certain that he was going to be watching if it went down.

How great is this guy, he's saying that there's been meetings between the IRB and Smolin that nobody knows about except for the IRB and him! He'll reference his sources, the same source that said Bobby wasn't allowed back at all, then when he comes back a week later he says that his return is "consistent" with his thread that he wasn't allowed back? He keeps referencing these meetings. Seriously? Meetings held by the race board regarding someone's eligibility and there is no documentation of said meeting because its "secret"? He also says he signed a document which I'm to assume is either completely fabricated to try to save his own (swoos) face or is another reliable source (his dog) telling him the "facts" that we should rely on and trust

It is interesting how one post's outrageous conspiracy theory becomes the next post's factual foundation. That's some nice work.
