Royal Dream: new record; no 5/8 mile track races
January 30, 2013
Royal Dream set a new race record in winning the Prix d'Amerique on Sunday in Paris. His mile rate time was 1:55.3, which erases the previous mark of 1:55.4 held by Offshore Dream and Ready Cash.
In other post-Prix d'Amerique news, trainer-driver Jean-Philippe Dubois said he would not race Royal Dream on five-eighths mile track, and thus will not consider either the Elitlopp or Breeders Crown at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The son of Love You (by Coktail Jet) stood at stud in 2012, breeding about 100 mares in France. He was not collected for breeding using frozen semen outside of France. His stud fee was 15,000 euros, which included a 2,000 euro booking fee.
In other post-Prix d'Amerique news, Stefan Hultman, the trainer of the Swedish horse Maharajah, told Swedish media that the horse's health appeared fine the day following his poor performance in the race. He took an early lead but then tired and faded unexpectedly early.
"I can confirm that we have no good answer to why Maharajah made a worse performance than expected," said Hultman, noting that Maharajah was alert after the race and ate and drank well.
