I have periodically checked the Hawthorne website for news of Jim Miller's replacement, or how his responsibilities will be divided up among current staff.  Anyone heard anything?

Funny you started this today. Hawthorne sent out a facebook status update today saying they were in all day meetings to plan for a great 2013. I wondered if maybe those meetings would produce the who does what's moving forward.

I agree, at least for Oct, early Nov, late Mch, and April. I enjoy playing Remington Park but I never would have even looked at initially it if it wasn't running at night.  I think HAW would get action.

They tried it a few years and did not continue.

He started out in lower positions, continued to get ones with more responsibility, and now he's asst GM. That's pretty much the dictionary definition of "worked his way up".

I doubt anyone missed the intent of your comment, as you've hardly ever had a good word to say about anyone in any position of responsibility in any organization.

If you guys would just put on better and more appealing races with squeakier clean integrity, the world would bet more, and all would be well with Illinois racing. The tracks can't do it all - you guys own the horses. The problem with Illinois racing is simple - people aren't betting enough on it.

I honestly don't know how much real decision making power is delegated to the Asst GM at Haw. Tim Carey seems to keep a pretty tight rein.

I take it you also don't agree that Mr. Carey keeps a tight rein on things. Please elaborate. With a new Asst. GM, are you predicting the expenditure of all sorts of money on all sorts of improvement projects like the backside and tracks surface and air conditioning and so on, that were NOT done under the old GM?

it is of some interest i have as i read about jim miller leaving hawthorne.
he goes back a long time there, at least a decade,
i remember back to a day when he and peter golassi
had a cable show on at 10PM.. they would recap hawthorne, and had
a derby preview / prep race review segment, that was most informative.

that  was a good show, and one that could have taken to the publics interest and made many fans that are not into the game.

well, he has a new door, and time to make new dreams.

ii'm sure the wind will blow the sand over his memory of hawthorne as time presses on down the trail of the future. he'll see the sun high in the big sky soon enough, he always does.

what was so damn funny about it.

if terry enjoys poking at something he thinks is, that is not, its all just a fiction in terrys mind...isn't it?

at least back then music was music, and the people would gather round listen to things as a social group, and enjoy one anothers company  you are probably to young and stupid to rememeber poy was legal until 1972, when nixon made it not.
...today you all gossip and tear down ideas and pride, sharing the company of noone, tweeting this and twitting that, playing on these dam electronic devices like a dog with his new bone, or a goof with his new trendy in line skates, like each of you have thoughts that are so dramatically important the entire world must know them.

now thats funny farthead...now go tweet about how you think your thoughts are important

Bzzzzzt. What you wrote WAS funny.

Quote

Poy? poi? or pot?

Pot was essentially illegal from 1937 to 1969 when the Marijuana Tax Act was overturned and repealed in 1970, when it was replaced by the controlled substances act.

"In 1967, President Johnson's Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of justice opined, "The Act raises an insignificant amount of revenue and exposes an insignificant number of marijuana transactions to public view, since only a handful of people are registered under the Act. It has become, in effect, solely- a criminal law, imposing sanctions upon persons who sell, acquire, or possess marijuana."

No need to be so venomous Big Red. I was referring to the youtube link that Terry posted re T Rex. It was quite funny and a nice respite. Personally, I was a Moody Blues guy back then (70's) and now.

Back then.........http://youtu.be/IPEMZteFjWc and 35 years later .............. http://youtu.be/tmOZFAYeurY
