I saw a good mare named Antholena D (Jim King Jr??) mentioned in another thread and thought of some of the fine (but relatively obscure....or NOT so relatively obscure) horses from a few decades ago. You can add a name to this thread and maybe his driver, trainer or owner to help us remember.
How about:
Village Jackpot with Jack Parker, Jr?

Chief Crazy Legs was fifteen in 1980 so I guess he’s a little bit removed from this window but he is a great example of the Metropolitan New York horses that were pre Meadowlands and better known for their toughness than their fast marks. He won a preliminary leg of the 1970 Fall Pacing Festival at RR for Ben Webster in a shade over two minutes, which was very fast on a half late in the year. Maida Million wound up winning the final for Eddie Cobb from the eight. Public Affair, who I don’t think ever won in two minutes, was second. Horses like Shore Will, Lucky Child, Claridge and Adios Waverly made that a special time period.

Sokys Atom became one heck of a broodmare sire in New Zealand. Auckland Reactor and Royal Cee Cee are both out of Sokys Atom mares.
When he won the Haughton as a two-year-old for Archie McNeil, it was the richest race ever at Roosevelt. He paid $45.

Dolfan: I don't recall Ben Steall being very tall. Now, Austin Hope, that was a different story-how he managed to be on a bike, I will never know.
A New England shout-out to 17 YO Kim Crawford, piloting Rebel Aaron in Green Mountain FFA's against the Jimmy Doherty-driven Miami Beach, who would ship in from Foxboro, and usually get the better of the local lad. Four decades later, Kim, after a stint as Saratoga trackman, is back in the bike.
Off-topic, my Dad and I, living 11 miles from Yonkers, but preferring long-distance day trips to Green Mtn., Hinsdale, Dover, and Harrington, among others, would chuckle whenever a Delaware harness race would feature the rhythmic drivers Messrs. Pitts, Putz, Sheats, and Cropper !

Wasn't Michaels All Star a ten claimer that went to the open after J Stark claimed him ? I thought that was kind of the horse that put him on the map, maybe i'm confused.

Come On Fred (Sam Rainbow-Twigs Girl), was a fan favorite at Rosecroft and Freestate back in the day for Robert Uebel. Perkins used to scream Come On Fred as he made his move, fans loved it. Fred had a penchant for wheeling sometimes as i recall, quirky horse who loved the fans it seemed. Beat Rambling Willie once as well. Probably late 70's / early 80's.

Otho Tucker, world's tallest harness driver. The Pride of Paris, Illinois.
Looking at the leading drivers, I guess JJ would be the tallest at 6’2”. Trond S is over six feet and Bartlett and Manzi are six, with Mark MacDonald close to that. Sears and Callahan are both listed at 5’10”. Frank Safford was a big guy who raced at 250 pounds at one point. The champ was probably Willem Geersen who won the 1960 International with Hairos II at 260 pounds. Eddie Cobb was 6’ and weighed about 190 and Bill Popfinger was 6’ but lighter, early in his career, anyway. He added a lot to that as he went along. Russell Rash was 5’11” and 170. Jim Doherty is 6’ tall. Sholty was only 5’3” and raced at 108 pounds at one point. After he put on weight he was a hefty 117. 5’3” is pretty small. Sach Werner was also 5’3”. Little guys have an edge. Herve is 5”5 and raced at 140 in his prime. Carmine: 5’6” and 145. Stanley Dancer: 5’8” and 140, Loosh: 5’6” and 135, Ben Webster: 5’8” and 140, Ted Wing and Lew Williams also 5’8” and 140, Ron Waples: 5’6” and 140 Brennan is only 5'5".

Anyone remember a crazy speedball trotter driven by Ken Barlow named Sir Ike? He raced at Meadowlands in the 80s i believe and always had a 10 length lead at the half, he would open up 10 and hang on by 1 at the wire (or, get caught). He was a fun horse to watch.

Haven't heard that name in a long time, Lumbering Mel. Nice horse. Rookery was like a rock star to me when i was a kid, went to Maine and won some older FFA with some guy who drove him after David got hurt, can't pull that name. Tuckerman was a nice open trotter that raced this circuit in the 80's, nice half mile horse Kenny Mitchell drove alot.

There's a Tbred at Philly Park racing now called Heather's Feather. Wasnt there a harness horse by that name in the 1980s?
Albatross filly who won the Sweetheart in 1980. Her Grandma was a sister to Tyler B, Tarport Hap, Cheery Hello and Jamuga.
