Anita Bedell, the director of Illinois Church Action on Alcohol & Addiction Problems, called on Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan to shut down the illegal operations.

"We need to make sure that gambling in the state is strictly regulated," Bedell said.

The Racing Board reported TwinSpires' and Xpressbet's actions to the attorney general's office, Ezzo said.

The Attorney General's office was not immediately available for comment.

Anita would find such an act repugnant, as well as immoral.

Illinois keeps electing these losers into office blindly and are then shocked that they are getting screwed. It's not going to get better until you change your voting habits. Illinois sadly to say, is one of the last states I would choose to live in today.

We're waiting for George W. Bush to come out of retirement, move to Naperville, and run for governor. If he wins, we're hoping he can do for racing and the state what he did for the country!

Everyone always claims the politicians down at Springfield are a bunch of hacks and fools, but they keep right on re-electing their own guy, so go figure. Who are the real hacks and fools.

Illinois... What's not to love? They get 5% of what I make and 10% of what I spend.  And I get the feeling they're not done with me yet.

Actually, the State isn't responsible for all 10c of your sales tax. But point made.

And don't forget a nice hit on every gallon of gas, and bottle or can of liquor, and dollar you bet at the races. And your car license fees. And your property taxes. And and and and and ...

And... I want to give my daughter and her husband a car that I bought 2 years ago, but I won't do it because our good state wants her to pay $1800 in sales tax if I transfer the title to her.

Well, they DO charge sales tax on used cars.

We do have pretty high taxes, but we also have some pretty high $ infrastructure costs that other places don't just because of the mass of people. For instance, the public transportation system, both CTA and Metra. There's no way in the world the fair value of your ride is as cheap as it is, but imagine the gridlock (and smog) around here if everyone had no choice but to drive. Likewise, the major freeways that have to be rebuilt so often because they get beat to death by so many cars and trucks.

Some people might complain about Chicago sucking up so much money, but there's no disputing the fact that it's the economic hub of the entire region (including NW Indiana) and generates a huge percentage of jobs and money. No person or business is attracted to Illinois by the many splendors of Countryside or Elk Grove Village.

Beobob:

This is the rule for you and your daughter ($15)  - If one of the following exceptions  apply, the tax due is $15:
vehicle is an estate gift to a
beneficiary other than a
surviving spouse
    vehicle is being transferred in
a business reorganization
    vehicle is being transferred
or purchased from a spouse
(including a party to a civil
union), parent, brother, sister,
or child
