So much for the theory nice slots purses will draw lots of eager trainers with lots of nice horses.

R1 - 4 maiden claimers after scratches
R3 - 6 maiden claimers
R4 - 5 nickle claimers after scratch ($17,000 pot)
R6 - 6 horse La. MSW after scratch
R8 - 7 horses AOC50k

You telling me I have been lied to... The memo I got says Bigger Purses=Bigger Fields=More fan Interest = Bigger Handle and eventually horse racing will be self Sufficient. Where is Jim C

The proper wording of that final step is "and then a miracle occurs".

How long before someone blames Hawthorne for the short fields at FG? After all, they expected about 300 horses from Hawthorne before they had to ban HAW horses from coming in.

Yes, well bred highly competitive horses magically spring from the earth to fill glorious full field races of allowance horses and high level claimers.

Which is a good thing, since during the years racing's purse structure has become ever more dependent on the free slots/cards welfare (over 50% was the last figure I saw), the number of horses produced in the traditional manner, breeding, has actually tanked in North America.

Fairgrounds and Oaklawns field size would have improved with cicero horses but they did the right thing.
