You are correct and remember if it were not for the 69 Cubs there would be no World Series champion NY Mets

Barry Bonds has to be number one.  Absolutely the greatest player to have played the game.  (Was Babe Ruth ever walked with the bases loaded?)   Would have been a hall of famer without the benefits of illegal substances.  Yet I hope he never gets in.

Pete Rose is a different story.  To the best of our knowledge, he never used illegal substances to prolong his career.  But he fails miserably on the integrity meter.  I don't think he should be in the HOF.  I may change my ind some day.

But Bonds, Clemens, Palmeiro, McGwire and Sosa knew they were breaking the rules and giving themselves an unfair advantage over their competition.  For them there can be no avenue in to the HOF.

While I do have sympathies for injury-prone McGwire who might have had a very short career without the aid of illegal drugs, the fact remains that those drugs that prolonged his career also provided the added power to perform incredible feats.

I will just say this....Bonds not making the Hall of Fame is a joke....Steroids weren't illegal in baseball if/when he did take them......Baseball ate up all those home runs and the zillions it brought in for them......Now they wanna vilify these guys as the biggest cheaters ever.....When if fact they weren't even cheating......They wanna apply today's rules to them......Steroids don't improve your hand/eye coordination......Steroids didnt make him the best/or at least top 3 defensive center fielders to ever play the game.....The guy is an ass......But he was a brilliant baseball player in every aspect of the game

Steroids werent illegal in baseball ? No, but if used them (and he did) it was a felony--a Federal crime. None of these were perscribed those drugs legally. Integrity goes into the equation when voting. I think committing a felony to improve your performance on the field might lower his integrity just a bit.

WOW harnessde we couldnt further disagree... ANABOLIC BONDS DESERVES NOTHING.  He WAS A HALL OF FAMER BEFORE HE CHEATED.  He should be stripped of his home runs. I do agree however, he was brilliant before the roids...

Maybe you're right about Ryan Howard being overrated, but those number of people who feel that way are dwindling.  He has never been considered a great defensive player (seeems to me he has improved) and his offense has died abruptly.

Yes, a Mets fan getting ready for another loooonnnng year.

The writers who voted really must think performance enhancing drugs are an issue . Sammy Sosa an admitted Flinstone vitamins user got less the 20 percent of the vote .

Rose is garbage.
Called old teammates in their locker rooms to hear how their players were doing for inside info for making bets.
A degenerate gambler.
Just saw he will have his own reality show on TLC.
That's where he belongs.
Not in the Hall of Fame.

Disagree.
He didn't throw games etc etc.
To competitive for that.

He is also my favorite player ever to watch play baseball.

And the reason the Phillies won the WS in 1980.

Him not being in the HOF is like the Beatles not being in the rock and roll hall of fame.

After the black sox scandal which nearly killed baseball a board was put in every locker room in the major leagues.
It' still ther today.
It explains the gambling rules for major leaguers.
He broke it time and again.
Worst of all he wouldn't come clean until he found out that;s what people wanted.
He is garbage pure and simple.
Enjoy his reality show on T.
YOu won't be seeing his name in the hall of fame.
Ever!

I wont watch the reality show.

Honus Wagner ( maybe was Speaker) and Ty Cobb threw a game.
It was kind of common place then.
In the old days they were all degenerate gamblers.

He will probably go in posthumously.

If you watched him play how could you not like him?

I firmly believe if he was on the Phillies the last 5 years they wold have won another WS or 2.

They lacked a charlie hustle.
I guy that would get in your face.
A winner.

I think hes paid his price for his indiscretions.

See how people can discuss without getting nasty?
Just sayin.

The writers who voted really must think performance enhancing drugs are an issue . Sammy Sosa an admitted Flinstone vitamins user got less the 20 percent of the vote .

Sosa was the classic cheat. The bat corking incident gave you an idea of that. His numbers were incredibly inflated.....he just wasnt even close to a HOF type caliber player. A defensive liability to say the least. Not surprisingly , his feeble attempt at
reviving his career with the Orioles was a bust and he was playing at about 60 pounds less than his Cub days. He really made it look obvious.

Pudge Rodriguez is another who has the numbers, but they are absolute nonsense. After drug testing was implemented, he was anything but Pudge. The slimmed down version finished out the career. Looked nothing at all like the Pudge who was around for the majority of his playing days. Did they think they were fooling anybody ?

Two examples of how the entire era was a joke. When testing came into play, it became a pitchers game again. These guys belong nowhere near Cooperstown

The pitchers were juicing too.

People say stuff like so and so is clean.

Truth is we do not know.

To be honest I suspect Pedro Martinez all 112 pounds of him.

Bonds is the one who mastered it is all.
Made a mockery of everything.
