Clubhouse, also make sure to have the baba gannouj, and smoke the hookah.

As for Monticello, the last few times I've traveled 17 up there, it looked like I-88... get past Middletown, and there are about seven people on the road.  I wonder if the cops even use Horton & Fishs Eddy as speed traps like they did back in the day... no one goes by.

Speed traps from Rock Hill to Wurtsboro. They line the entrance ramp and 1 guy works radar from overpass.
Route 17B in White Lake. Speed limit goes down to 40 and most maintain high speeds. Cha Ching.

Smoke the hookah sounds illegal. LOL.

It isn't, and it's quite pleasant.

The Monticello exit from 17NB used (may still) have a sign which says "White Lake" and then "Raceway" underneath, so back in the day, my friends I invented a mythical place called White Lake Raceway, peopled of course by the worst horses from Monticello.  Clayhaven Squalis won many a feature there in an action-packed, exciting 2:14.3.  Cheesy

Seeing what Monticello Raceway did with the addition of the Casino/slots. Who in their right mnd would think these clowns having a new track would be any different? Take a wrecking ball to the place and send the clowns to work in a circus. Absolutely Pathetic!!!!!!!

Hey, why not build a Port-au Prince Downs in Haiti... it's the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, but that ol' harness-racing-lerving public will still beat a path to its doorstep.  Wink

Good analogy to building an upgraded track in the Monticello area.

It's a poor and economically stressed area... not exactly Appalachia, of course, but still, it's seen much better days.  There is no city of any appreciable size nearby; Monticello itself has a population of under 7,000.

It flourished in the days when my coreligionists would, as was said in the parlance of the day,  "go to the country," but those days are long gone.  Who around there, save for the odd NYSDOCS officer, even has a job?

That would be "Radar Ray", The Nazi police that works the White Lake speed trap and Loves to ticket the Hasidic Jews.
