Many of us, like them or not have some of the best race callers in our area.
When people complain about McKee or Middleton.....just listen to the race callers at 2 places: Rideau and Sportscreek. Maybe I caught these guys on bad nights, but every time I heard them, they called wrong horses names, and make endless mistakes.

McKee and Middletown are excellent. Nothing to complain about.
I watched a race from Cal Expo Friday or Saturday and the announcer kept saying the favorite (who was in the lead the entire race) wasn't responding but still managed to wire the field. Because he didn't draw clear and win by 7, he wasn't responding. He still won and held off the closers.  head shake

Club, I think the thing that most bothers me is when a caller can't recognize a horse that's either making a move or if he was clear can make a big move. The guy at Rideau especially, is clueless....but he does have a cool accent....when he announces they are at the "tiger turn" laughing guy laughing guy

Jack Gallagher calls the last 1/8th of a race better than anyone and rarely if ever doesn't call the eventual winner.

Jerry Glantz and George Anthony are like that. As soon as a horse goes 3 wide they yell and scream and expect an explosion just because the horse moved wide but 99 out of 100 times the horse never advances.

Larry called a few at The Meadowlands last week and was outstanding as always. I will tune in to Pompano to hear his calls. Thanks for the dates.

What don't you like about PPK's race caller?  I think he's pretty decent, especially for a T-bred guy.

Lederman is great - 2nd best, only to the legendary Jack Lee.

Jack Gallagher at Dover really sees a race unfold.
Tom Durkin one of the very best. And let's not forget Dave Johnson at the Meadowlands in the old days, plus many t-bred tracks.
Trevor Denman very accurate, but his "And Away they Go" with his voice dropping, is the antithesis of excitement.
Nice to see Wally Cryan get a mention, Tony Butler at Green Mountain in the 70's had a very distinctive voice.
Marshall Cassidy? BOO !! One of the most boring, EVER, the flats' answer to Bullet Bob Meyer, who still pops up occasionally.
And yes, Max Brewer a very good racecaller.
Carl Becker, and his son Curt Becker, both mighty good.

I would love to see Vance Cameron and Roger Huston locked in a room. I don't share the previous writer's joy at Vance's calls-but given that he sounds like he is 120 years old, he does a pretty good job. BTW, he announces in the Maritimes.

Lederman's schtick gets tiresome and I've only heard him as a guest.
I wouldn't have wanted to hear that day in day out.

I'm glad his health fight continues and I hope he wins this battle.
