Hawthorne Gold Cup -1993. Evanescent beats heavily favored Marquetry. He was Animal Kingdom before Animal Kingdom. He could win on all surfaces at all distances. I still give the edge to Animal Kingdom.

i spent many a birthday in jan at haw.it could be below zero with a foot of snow or 60 degrees outside.
my fondest memory was a sat night watching them come down stretch from the parking lot (i had bett wayne moore)thinking we would be beat the crowd out.of course moore wins and i got to fight the crowd leaving as i had to back into cash !
