Merry Christmas to all. The other day on Twitter, Gary Contessa told of a random act of kindness he did that day in the spirit of Christmas. He said he was at a gas station and there was a woman with four kids in the car, a "79 Smoker", and she bought $5 in gas. What he did was fill and pay for a tank of gas for her. He said that after he did that, she cried.

Although my husband and I try to do acts of kindness throughout the year, we did a Secret Santa this year paying off a family's layaway balance at Toys R Us. Toys R Us will now also donate $200 in toys to Toys for Tots and, surprisingly, they gave us a receipt for our donation for tax purposes.

Please share your stories of your acts of kindness. It's really what Christmas is all about; good will toward men, women, children and animals.

Mary Ann... Nice work for Christmas!  I hope what we did was as great.  It was so much fun for me to get together very nice things for the backstretch people.  I don't know many of them, but I love them.

Merry Christmas to ALL fellow BTW members.

My act of kindness this past week was to bring some winter clothing, carhart coveralls and gloves to a former groom when I owned Standardbreds.
Hes an older guy, and really has nothing, lives in 1 of the dorm rooms at the track, figured he might need a little something extra to stay warm this winter.

Merry Christmas all. Lusty, what a very nice, thoughtful and caring thing you did. I'm sure you made his day with your sharing. I really enjoy reading the nice things people here at BTW have done for others. It's especially uplifting when you hear about all of the awful things that go on in this world. This year, our family decided to purchase a small Christmas gift for each other and to donate more to a charity. We decided to do Secret Santa while other family members donated to a group that helps women who are victims of domestic violence. We all enjoyed making these donations so much that we are going to extend it to birthdays, giving to a charity of the birthday person's choice instead of getting that person a gift. We always go out to a nice restaurant for birthdays and that's really all we need. In giving to a charity for Christmas, it took a lot of the pressure off like shopping for gifts, wrapping, etc. Our family get-together is always on Christmas Eve and we all had such a good time just being together.

It's a good thing to share your stories of kindness because kindness becomes contagious.

Happy New Year to all and may you have many wins in 2013.

Adding my Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all, especially the horse people and those who take care of them.

Even a Merry Christmas to Terry "Scrooge" B and may we all continue to dialogue with you in the new year.

Maryann,
Thank you for sharing that with everyone.  Hopefully it will encourage others to do the same.  It also told me what businesses are likely to match my donations thus giving more and more.  I love to hear stories like these.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year to come.

Pam,
It's so obvious that everyone would be terribly unhappy if you left for good.....you bring sunshine to people's lives...it would be a shame to take that sunshine away...(don't make me sing)

Oh, Maryann,
Any idea where the best place to donate some very nice toddler clothing. (Alot of it). I've boxed so much, but don't know where it will do the most good.  I don't mind shipping it if you have any ideas !
Thanks

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Equiforce. There are so many children who could use your items. I've done some checking and found YWCA has clothing drop-off box locations. I also found the following link that may help you:

http://thestuffstop.com/stuff/kids/

Our Secret Santa experience was so enjoyable for us. We were just so glad we could do it. We thought about this family yesterday, thinking of kids playing with toys as it should be on Christmas.
