For those that didn't hear it, Josh Sutton was the pre-racing driver interview this evening, and after a few questions about his drives in the later races, he was asked about his whipping and he responded with he was hitting the shaft and the "dumbasses on the internet" need to something or the other.

The problem with hitting the shaft is that the end of the whip and the cracker wrap around the shaft and hit the inside of the stifle, causing cuts and welts. I have personally seen the damage from this action. So anybody who tells you this CRAP KNOWS what he is doing.

I heard there's a big Carver in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Actually, I think this is a made-up place.  But it still sounds kinda cool.

I think can take care of it for him for next time, in a more fan friendly manner.

"Well, gosh, JD, I never really thought about it all these years of driving the way my employers told me to, but I guess maybe I really DO whip the crap out of these horses too much even though it's the shaft, and I am truly blessed that I have the armchair drivers of the Internet who never even jogged one to put me right! I'm a reformed man!"

Well that just proves that you (all together now...) DON'T CARE ABOUT HORSES.

There, I pre-empted everyone.

For the record, I've jogged a LOT of horses.  A bit too big for things on the t-bred side, though, even in the Fall Highweight.

I always wonder what kind of driver I would be-

Played competitive basketball through high school & hated to lose-it seems like it would be kind of easy to get "over agressive" with the whip if you feel the horse is not performing up to standards or after many losing drives in a night.

I do see that Josh is down on almost every race so there are trainers that trust him with their animals.

"He feckin' curled up on me" is another good one.

There used to be something called Turning A Horse, when horses actually used to go warmup miles before the races.  But that's ancient history.

As for Josh Sutton, he seemed to lose his powers by simply crossing the state line from Indiana into Illinois.  Has Got Er Done ever won at Blimpie?

Nice job Jmanx and supernat very few things I agree with u but u are right on the money with this one that is exactly why they hit the shafts and try to act like its know big thing and bull chit they no what they are doing and no they cut the stifles doing it and it's bull.
Now as far as jogging and driving and setting on the Internet well that's could only come from some one who is not a owner or at least a responsible owner, or he would go inspect his horse after he races for himself., and if your trainer does it like it he's hiding something!
I feel one time cutting a horses Stifflers is too much!
And should be giving punishment for offense  I prefer giving them a Mexican tatoo across there cheek for such offenders!
The vaquero spurs work really well for this punishment!

That's the KEY word-USED to check. They do NOT check in Illinois. At least not that I know of. Indiana does it and so did Michigan. And it's IMPOSSIBLE too see welts immediately after a race. The welts will show up the next morning. And NO, the vet does NOT come by and look at horses that raced the previous night. The only way they would, is to be turned in by the groom or the trainer. Which would result in a blackballing by the other drivers.

He was speaking retarded. He carved up one of my horses 5 years ago and has not driven for me since. Hitting the shaft LOL! He speaks like an illiterate Jap. I won the race in the first quarter LOL! The other night he was leading with slow fractions on a favorite at Balmoral and got it shoved up his candy ass! Interview him on that race. Josh Sutton has an excuse or answer for everything!

That's two drivers, first Casey Leonard (who dosn't whip enough) now Josh Sutton (who whips to much).
Did you like anyone who drove for you? Better yet get your drivers license and get out there man!!!

Actually, it was a foot out of the stirrup, JD, not whipping.

But yes, they do check.  State vet comes to the stall with a flashlight and looks the horse over if it looked like too much whip.

You can see the lines Warren.  Spend a little time in the barn around horses and you'll learn something.
