For those that didn't hear it, Josh Sutton was the pre-racing driver interview this evening, and after a few questions about his drives in the later races, he was asked about his whipping and he responded with he was hitting the shaft and the "dumbasses on the internet" need to something or the other.

The problem with hitting the shaft is that the end of the whip and the cracker wrap around the shaft and hit the inside of the stifle, causing cuts and welts. I have personally seen the damage from this action. So anybody who tells you this CRAP KNOWS what he is doing.

I heard there's a big Carver in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Actually, I think this is a made-up place.  But it still sounds kinda cool.

I think can take care of it for him for next time, in a more fan friendly manner.

"Well, gosh, JD, I never really thought about it all these years of driving the way my employers told me to, but I guess maybe I really DO whip the crap out of these horses too much even though it's the shaft, and I am truly blessed that I have the armchair drivers of the Internet who never even jogged one to put me right! I'm a reformed man!"

Well that just proves that you (all together now...) DON'T CARE ABOUT HORSES.

There, I pre-empted everyone.

For the record, I've jogged a LOT of horses.  A bit too big for things on the t-bred side, though, even in the Fall Highweight.

Wouldn't he get fined if there were welts or blood?  The state vet used to check horses.  I didn't see any fines listed on USTA site.

I always wonder what kind of driver I would be-

Played competitive basketball through high school & hated to lose-it seems like it would be kind of easy to get "over agressive" with the whip if you feel the horse is not performing up to standards or after many losing drives in a night.

I do see that Josh is down on almost every race so there are trainers that trust him with their animals.

I don't even know what that means.

I often stiff one, though. Especially mornings, upon waking.
