Mr. Mannix,
A little question for you from this old hoss trainer.
Why in 2009 when you started out posting were you such a good speller?
Did Peggy leave you?

I am just an old "Hoss" trainer, that has been raced hard and put away wet.
As my Friend from Maine(Ora Stratton) says "There are horse trainers, and then there are real "Hoss" trainers.

Two pacers went to Racine for the racing, however they were too fast for the classes.

After years of trying for harness racing dates and only being able to get the least desirable dates if any . Hawthorne as far as i know doesn't even attempt to get harness dates . I'm not sure 40 dates in the freezing cold of winter is much of a draw anyways .

We raced there in the summer for 3 or 4 years between '03 and '08.

We enjoyed racing at Hawthorne.

There's an old thread on this.

Another previously provided that the last harness racing meet at Hawthorne required a bailout in excess of one-million paid by another group.

When there are defaults (especially in purses to horsemen), somebody does have to ante-up to assure the longevity of the industry.

Not sure how your able to take Maywood out of the mix?
Despite their lesser schedule, it's not likely the doors will be closed.

I agree, unfortunately if Hawthorne is NOT able to absorb the costs of better customer service than, their existence is detrimental to the local industry.
The utility bills for that big empty grandstand/clubhouse at Hawthorne are likely a financial burden.

The game has a following of 16 people, at least 7 of whom are at liberty, and four of whom are reasonably conversant in the English language.  Where exactly is it going?
