Fell out of the G3 ranks.

On the other hand, the Arlington Classic (whatever that is) rose into the G3 ranks.

Overall, it looks like the total will remain pretty much the same with only a small net loss, which, coupled with the continued implosion of total foal crop, means your $20k claimer has a better chance of picking up Graded black type every year.

Read all the graded stakes changes here.

Sad to see the Santa Monica and Charlie Whittingham races go to G2. Gazelle was a little understandble.

When did Mr. D get into bed with Churchill? Seems to me nothing good has happened under their leadership.

It also seems that Mr. D has maybe lost some passion for the sport. Arlington attracted some real nice horses back in the 80's & 90's.  Cry

He sold the track to Churchill almost immediately after the 1999 Assembly had given him big tax breaks and a promise of the cut of the Rosemont casino in an effort to "save Illinois racing" by getting Arlington open again. Boy was my State Senator livid about that.

He's certainly presided over a decline in the prestige of the Arlington meet over the years, that's for sure, but horse racing is declining almost everywhere. It sure hasn't seemed to carry the same weight as before he closed it for the two year snit fit, though. And the continual efforts to extend the meet primarily to control simulcast dates has cheapened it, too. It's sort of the Calder of the north, now.

Everything about Churchill as a horse racing company kind of went south when Meeker left and Evans took over. Meeker saw the horse racing industry as an integrated whole where all the parts depended on each other for survival, and did his best to work with the other tracks and segments. Evans is just out to screw everyone else in the name of higher profits for Churchill.

My pipe dream is that they sell the track to someone with the same passion Mr. D had when he initially purchased the track. Does Eddie Olczyk have that kind of money/connections?  screwy

But that's a 99/1 shot since they know they'll get slots ... eventually.

They also know that slots at this time will not generate anywhere near the revenue they would have 15 years ago.  As the track is now surrounded with land based casino's.

I doubt it is going to happen but if you put slots at Arlington- that place is going to be PACKED.
DONT CARE HOW MANY LAND BASED CASINOS THERE ARE..

It would be like fathers day- everyday

I think Olczyk has good coin- bit not sure he has that kind of coin.
He certainly has a passion for racing & capping but not sure he wants to take up his time with a dying industry.

He took down a huge pic 4 at Hollywood Pk for about 150k a few yrs ago

It might be packed to begin with, before the novelty wears off, but after awhile it would be like any other racetrack slots operation in America, semi-full most of the time and busy weekends, etc. It might even be worse than most, considering there wouldn't be the table games that the local casinos four miles away have to offer. But I suppose it would only be a matter of time before the tracks "needed" those, too.
