Getting Book "What Killed Horse Racing" Published

Hi everyone:

Let's call this a search of last resort.

Not long ago I finished a labor of love.  It was a book on many of my horse racing experiences while writing for the Pasadena Star News.  Many of the stories are of significant historical significance and I had no visions of making lots of cash.  The final chapter is titled "What Killed Horse Racing."  It's an in depth look at what has happened to the once wonderful sport of kings.  I have interviewed experts and chemists from many lands and have come to some conclusions which are going to rub the traditional horsemen the wrong way. 

I've been down the path of going to these self publishing companies.  They are, without question, feeding on the egos of the writer.  That would not be me.  I'm not going to pay a publicist or do I have the money to promote my book since retiring.  So I am looking for a publisher who will get the book in print.

Many of the chapters cover the racing in the 70s.  The book covers the gamut from Joe Hernandez' last day at the Santa Anita microphone to the crazy world of famed jockey agent Harry "The Hat" Hacek.  These are stories and events that actually took place and literary agents wanted me to fictionalize.

last time i looked horse racing was alive and well..

all it needs is a triple crown winner to apease the popular culture for a year or so, and all is well.
i would think it will be very difficult to get your book published unless you are going for a fiction category of some type.

last time i looked, the richest race in the world was 2200 m for 10 million bucks..that seems like plenty of life to me.

maybe the final chapter should read more "glasss half full"...something like,

Horse racing, far from the prominence it once held in america's  glorious times , looks into the future with uncertainty.

Then any reasonable person would have to believe that he should look again.
