Janine has a story on the front news page. AP is suing the IRB over awarding some of "its" dark simulcast days to Hawthorne. AP claims the move  "exceeded its [IRB] statutory authority" and was "not in the best interest of Illinois racing" ... AP apparently being the final word on what's best for Illinois racing as well as authority on who Illinois racing dates actually belong to.

If nothing else, the Churchill corporate money and State taxpayer's money for lawyers etc. will be well spent pursuing this.

Do they really think they stand a chance of winning the lawsuit? I would think the IRB could assign any dates they want as long as they aren't acting in an arbitrary and capricious manner.
Maybe in retribution the board could make them stop stealing the penny breakage.

Everything Arlington does is in the best interests of Illinois racing, don't you know.  Wink

Anybody who sets foot in that place or plays its races is an enabler.

"I had those dark days for a few years, after the IRB took them away from Hawthorne and the Sportsman's meet, so by God-given right they're MINE! MINE ALL MINE!"

Maybe they can take the money and donate to Hawthornes for horses that need testing and disinfectant .
Do u really think after all of this any one will bring horses back to Hawthorne?

Why should a State Legislator vote for a bill that benefits a Race Track that is suing the State  ?

Another example   of  CDI / Mr D not getting their way , money under both arm's and that's not enough. Is he going to threaten to close the track again. Does anyone remember the No Casino buttons he and all his employees had on?  THE STATE does   DICK  !!

It's a bit misleading when they say they are losing 1.5 million, part of which is to pay purses.  The purse portion goes to purses, whether at AP or Haw.  They really want host commissions.

I think Hawthorne sued them a few years back for something, too, to no avail. And AP was already involved in some suit against the State for how it allocated the casino money. Don't know how that one turned out.

Send lawyers, guns, and money.

Both tracks will fight tooth and nail for days, either racing or hosting.  It's a zero sum game, money in one pocket is taken from another.

Let Mr. D. win I don't want my tax dollars wasted fighting his influence peddlers and corporate lawyers.  On the other hand, the cheap  screw that run Haw. are now counting on that money to repay the sleeping security guards and the vendors who they purchased the hundreds of thousands of dollars of bleach and latex gloves from to combat the virus.

A tremendously bad use of money as compared to Mr. D's proposed deluxe lighting system for two whole nights of racing at AP, not to mention all the Illinois money that's been siphoned out of both Illinois wagering commissions and Illinois riverboat impact "improvement" money to build that deluxe billionaire's room at Churchill Downs.

Mine is that the courts can decide it.  I'm not going to use it as a reason to turn this into an Arlington/Hawthorne pissing match

That's my legal opinion, too.

It is what it is, a pissing match between Arlington and Hawthorne via the IRB and now wasting taxpayer money, too.

Aren't these lawsuits just the route that Illinois law requires to appeal an IRB decision?  I don't have the impression that this is anything unusual at all.

That might be, but it's still news.

Janine linked a blog entry in another thread that's mostly about this, and it's entertaining reading. Thank God for blogs where everyone with an opinion can sound off and get "the truth" out there.  Cheesy
