as you say..well how relevant is this data..

not very..

consider the top 13 leaders have all accumulatd in total just over 100 points.

the winner of 1 of the 7 grade 1 series 2 races in the first week of April 2013 will earn 100 points..( 100-40-20-10)

so as of 11-23-2012, you are looking at a first quarter NBA score.

on a side note..5-4-2013..the date of derby 139..has the digits 0 through 5  contained in it in date order...not numerical order..just sayin...

This DRF story says the top two finishers in the KY Jockey Club Stakes posted pretty unimpressive Beyer Numbers, so keep that in mind for your 2 yo points leaders. Usually in the past that race has produced at least a couple that figured prominently in the TC trail the following year. If someone sees figs for this race from some other source, please update.

The guy from blood horse s on TVG right now talking about the new derby point system and totally called out Churchill/Arlington for screwing Hawthorne. No sugar coating at all. It was pretty sweet.

it was steve haskins from bloodhorse who was with drf for about 20 years prior to shifting to bloodhorse.

i think it is clear DD is a complete prick, and he apparently is the only one on earth that doesn't see it that way.
i wouldn't be surprised if it is his doing in some way that managed to get the dieease into thawthornes back stretch.

DD is a greedy manipulative piece of greedy shit that has to go. his leaving the racing world would only benefit illinois. he may do some benevolent things, but his insistence on being an egotistical ass hole is more than most can stand.

It took longer than I thought, but whoever had November 29 in the "Day AP or DD gets blamed for the virus pool", your prize is in the mail.

Any thread that bashes DD and Arlington: I'm in.
Step 2: Don't go.

And what particularly constructive things have we seen from Arlington? Besides the Pink Floyd cover band?

What improvements have we seen to the facility since they got all that boat money that was supposed to go into facilities improvements and marketing, etc.? (Though the same could be asked about any Illinois track ... I guess FP did fix that big screen.)

Whatever your personal feelings are about AP and/or Pink Floyd, we are deluding ourselves if we think that Illinois racing doesn't need summer racing at AP.  I know there is a long history of well deserved distrust and less than amicable relations with AP, but adversity and/or a common goal can unite even the worst rivals.  Why, just look at HV and Terry the last couple of weeks, they've gone from Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis to the Captain and Tenille.

I'm hoping that our leadership at the ITHA and management at AP realize the importance of finding common ground.  We are fighting each other over the crumbs of an ever shrinking pie rather than working together to increase the size of the pie.

I know that the well deserved bombs will now be leveled at the naivety of my post, but that is our only hope.  Slots are only a short term fix.

I was going to quickly call "Captain!" before HV could get to it, but then I got to thinking ... do I really want to be stuck with that silly hat?

Step 4: Don't expect racing to survive in Illinois if AP closes.

so hawthorne would get some dates, and maybe maywood would pick up some thoroughbred races.

businessmen with vision will fill the vacuum left by the demise of churchill downs in illinois. perhaps a new faciity would emerge. a new LLC entitiy made up of slot people, casino people, and horse people, and gather the funds to build and run a new facility , perhaps with state funding and particpation in a note underwriting. what the legislature WONT ever give dd/AP , they would probably be more than pleased to give to another endeavor of a different ownership group that was in it for the sport.

perhaps even the sheik himslef and darley would invest a small pitance for him into a deal that would bring his stables to the barrington area.

who knows what the future brings ?

I don't think Maywood would get thoroughbred dates since they are a half-mile harness track, but Balmoral could and has run thoroughbreds.

There would be no new track or entity to take the place of Arlington.  There would be no funding from the state or from casinos to open a new track no matter who wanted it.  Racing could go on at Hawthorne, but not at any level higher than Hoosier Downs.

If Arlington goes, racing as we know it goes.

and what is so great about racing as we know it ?

over priced fare, pollytrack, and ownership that cares more about the stock price and personal wealth , than they do about promoting the sport to make it grow into our society to occupy the place and stature it once did.

the old is just that old and not in touch..
racing as we know it here.... gone...where do i sign up for that ?

i am sure there are many people just waiting for a chance to fill the vacuum left by the demise of CD in Illinois.

the destruction of the DD empire and the REPLACEMENT of it with a better product should be our goal,
not cowtowing to this greedy garbage man.
