Last week, we watched this show for the first time and found it to be interesting, entertaining and sometimes amusing. Moonshiners in America date back to the 1700ís and itís still a $100 million a year industry (tax free). NASCAR got its start from moonshine runners who needed suped up cars to outrun the law. The people in the show are or were real moonshiners. When we saw and heard one of the characters (Tickle) for the first time, my husband and I looked at each other and together said ďErnest T. BassĒ. The State of Virginia, where it's filmed, says itís not real alcohol that's shown but those involved in the production say it is (was filmed in 2009).

You can watch some sneak peeks or full episodes on the following link to get a feel for the show. I highly recommend watching Extended Season 2 Sneak Peek in the Most Watched section where they burn some junk in the yard to get rid of it. It gives the term ďdumb luckĒ a new meaning. Itís funny only because no one got hurt and who hasnít done something really dumb.

The show is on the Discovery Channel tonight at 9:00 p.m. (Central) and it is a weekly show. Give it a look and see how the other half lives. The world would be an awfully dull place if it didnít have its characters. You might get hooked on this show. If not, youíll at least know what everyone else is talking about. Iíve heard a third season is in the works (first episode premiered December 6, 2011).

Oh my gosh.  I just clicked around the other day, and landed on an old Andy Griffith show with Ernest T Bass.  The one where he wanted an army uniform.  He was breaking windows all over town.  What a character that guy can play!

I actually knew moonshiners when I was young and visited my grandparents every summer.  We spent most of the week up a mountain in a cabin in the woods.  Moonshiners up there would stop in time and again for whatever my grandmother had on the wood stove simmering away. And her home made bread.  Oh, the stories!   I so wished I would have had the brains to record some.  Those guys weren't afraid of any lawmen.

Pam, I've seen that episode several times. He wanted the uniform to impress Charlene Darling.

Right now, they're showing last year's season finale of the Moonshiners on the Discovery Channel.

Here's one of the most classic scenes of Ernest T when he's serenading Charlene. Enjoy:

Thank you Mary Ann.  That was so funny!

The people I knew who still were moonshiners would never think of buying liquor nor their families that always bought from them.  Strange, huh?
