Kelly Tuc a few of us thought you were a trainer here in Illinois over the past months I told my buddy I thought he was wrong.  So in the case that I am right you are neither a owner nor trainer so what is your stake to Illinois harness racing.  Since Luc is a avid fan of typing on BTW, Dan and PJ chime in, I try not to get involved in all the banter although sometimes it is fun.  We are owners past the skin in the game we are at the point of body parts.  Harness racing in this state can use another 50-100 owners like us that put money in the game and keep trainers from leaving the state.  Guys in there late 30's early 40's buying 5-6 Illinois breeds a year works only if you have a program and as everyone knows we don't until a gaming bill is passed.  I like others think a business should stand on it's own but my love for the sport is know blinded by the fact if racing needs slots then so be it sign me up.  It will be interesting in a few years to see what type of model Ontario develops and to see if the sport can thrive without slots.  If they can maybe that will be the direction of many states because the welfare wouldn't last forever.  Luc there is a Obama joke in there just don't want to go off topic.  Bernie does Illinois racing really need to go 52 weeks a year.  How about a two month layoff Dec and Jan save some purse money.

I'm not surprised.   You were in this debate for all of 24 hours and are giving up.  Put yourself in George Bonomo's position or Dave Mc's.  They tried and are trying for years.  But like I said, guys like you are a nickel a dozen.   You yell and scream but when you're really needed or you're asked to provide help or ideas you disappear.  Typical.

The racing landscape in 2014 will be vastly different in Illinois if we don't get slots.

I used to train and remain a fan.  I appreciate the work the IHHA does and when asked to call or write a letter I happily help and encourage others to do the same.   Anyone that has the money to participate owning horses today are owed a debt of gratitude from the trainers they hire.  I find it unfortunate, though, to hear people (like Luc) criticize volunteers for being incompetent when they don't do anything themselves to help the cause.

Then run the guy!  There's probably something in the IHHA by-laws to take over the presidency.  You're all a bunch of goods.  If you think you can do better than George and Dave, well, go for it!   However, I'm willing to bet that Lucpark, Larry Trotter, and Fuzzy Pants, etc.  won't be anywhere near that meeting Monday.
Like I said, "A nickel a dozen!"  Flippin' goofs!!  screwy screwy

Just watched Luis Gutierrez on Bill O'reilley. He is a state rep representing Chicago in Washington. He seemed like a very energetic, reputable person who may take an interest in the cause because of the latino population that is involved in horse racing. He is very involved in immigration and maybe have some political leverage over some of these people blocking slots. At this point, would be worth a phone call.

Thank you  thumbs up

Your welcome and a link to his site

http://gutierrez.house.gov/about-me

He is at the center of immigration reform and Obama is even a little intimidated by him, I believe, because he knows he promised Gutierrez some immigration reform in the first year of his first term and never delivered. Gutierrez delivered an endorsement from the Latinos and now wanting some action. I believe he carries a lot of weight in the party right now.

Obama is if for his final term...Does not need Louie or his constituents...Keep in mind Louie is Puerto Rican and not illegal...Albeit he champions immigration reform, his power is minimal especially in the US house of repts.
Obama has never been intimiidated by Little Loue.

Old and Slow while your Eveready dream of 1200 slots just KEEPS GOING AND GOING AND GOING .... It's time for another plan to get money for purses in Illinois . Laws can be amended and maybe a hundred or two hundred video poker machines could be a start .
Lets face it the millions and millions given to track owners weren't spent on purses updating or added promotion of racing . The owners kept quite a bit and banked it my friend .
In closing i applaud your efforts the past few years in trying to get slots in Illinois . However it is time to make adjustments in the game plan isn't it !!!!!!!!
By the way 5 poker machines would be a nice addition to my income . I'm guessing 5 machines could generate 100k in the right areas .

Since Quinn has concerns about corruption, has horse racing offered up anything from their side? Stiffer fines, suspensions, and lifetime bans for those caught cheating could help the image and maybe gain some support. Harness racing is the player to be named later and doesn't have the clout that the thoroughbreds do. It also has the worst reputation. If they step up and make a huge effort to bust the cheats, it would put pressure on the thoroughbreds to do the same. It may also give a few legislators an excuse to support the bill. You have to give to receive and sure a lot of people who play fair would be all for it.

Quinn's concerns about corruption are solely focused on the city-owned Chicago casino.

Horse racing does not police itself.  There is no mechanism in place for that.  The game is regulated and policed by the Illinois Racing Board.  The IRB is made up of people appointed by Quinn.  So if he were concerned about corruption in horse racing, only he has the means to address it.  The fact that he has not said a word about it leads me to believe he does not feel it to be an issue.

We already have legislators supporting the bill, in fact we have enough that it passed through both chambers 2 years in a row.  It's true we need more if there is an effort to override, especially on the Senate side. I've talked with many legislators, and those that don't support the bill invariably give one of three reasons: they have an existing boat in their district, they are morally opposed to an expansion of gaming, or they don't want to see a city owned casino.

I have never heard any one of them call into question the integrity of racing as a reason not to support the bill.

I appreciate your willingness to look at this from all angles.

Outlook for 2013 and 2014 don't look promising but as a longtime fan of racing lets hope for good news ...
