Google's Time-Life archives and photographer Peter Stackpole includes 48-pics of Greyhoud, if your able to locate them (the search options are dismal).

The University of Kentucky Digital has 280+ harness racing pics

Thanks for posting MISS! these pics are great!
Entering Mohawk they have a long row of pictures which some I believe are replicas of the pics you post. I always try to get to the track well before post of the 1st race to see the pics which capture the early days of Canadian racing. thumbs up thumbs up horse trotter horse shoe beer

Sounds nice. All tracks should put up at least a few pics detailing their history. Every track has history. One of the things I like about harness is that it's been around so long and is still loved by many. The historical context of the sport is a positive selling point that is wasted when not used.

I hope to visit Mohawk and Woodbine someday. I've visited Toronto a few times, before I got into harness.

Yes the 1st photo is indeed the Greenwood entrance.

The wagering window photo I believe is an American track but nobody has been able to correctly identify which one.

I will dig through my pics to see if I saved copies of the other angles of that wagering window photo. I remember what they looked like and at least one was close-up shot from the ground, had to be the same building.

The racetracks in Japan still pack them in. I turned on TV-G and watched a race from there and it had
to be over 100k people there.

Hong Kongers are probably the greatest gamblers in horse racing.

I read a report that 90% of the adult population bets on horses.

Don't know if it is true. dunno

Yeah, I've seen pics/video of modern Asian horse tracks with huge crowds. Must be nice. I guess they don't have scratch-off lottery tickets in Asia. They for sure have one arm bandits but maybe not the machines with buttons for the folks too lazy to pull down the arm. lol

Them pics been online for more than a decade.
Links have been provided here previously, however the items are simply too old for general interest.

It was my hope that museum's Roosevelt Project would be presented in a similar manner, however it isn't going to happen.

You've probably seen this already, Wilderness, but here is a nice collection of Roosevelt photos: http://rrtrotting.com.

And thanks for the other 2 links. The Life archive I'm well familiar with but it's been a while since I've done a harness search. The other looks very interesting. Thanks.

This is nice thread by Missy.

I don't wanna spoil it by talking about men handcuffed to bedposts and S&M.

The Life archive I'm well familiar with but it's been a while since I've done a harness search.

Good luck with that.
I tried every variation possible of harness racing words since yesterday and got ZILCH.
Even tried "Hambledon" and "Coshen", which some of the pics were categorized under previously. ZILCH.

Glad I took the time a few years ago to search the ones I could find and save them locally.

And now at Woodbine 82 years later in 2012 you can make $1 win/place/show bets.

Go figure.
