Well, the break even point was $496 for all 8 races. Thanks to HV for running this! Almost hit the break even point. Maybe next year...

Well, the break even point was $496 for all 8 races.

I think you computed 8 races. There were 9 BC races today.

I have:

(5 horse $1 ex box = $20 + 5 horse 50 cent tri box = $30 + 5 horse 10 cent super box = $12) * 9 races = $558 for break even.

(Sorry...as if this game isn't tough enough...)

I'm sure glad I quit betting any real money on the BC years ago!  thumbs down

But didn't you give out a good priced horse today?  I had one from you and another that I can't remember who gave it, but there was a $5 and a #9 that I used for hedging and they were both good!   I thank you both.

Yes indeed, thanks a lot.

And congrats to the top players. I was especially impressed by petgal's picks, turned in within a few hours of the contest being announced in the middle of the week!

Same here, Pammy:

...week in & week out, I don't think anybody picks as many winners (and at prices!) as Commander does...

I have been of the opinion for some time that when we hold a contest here, it's The Commander...and the rest of us are playing for 2nd.

You're welcome, all of you.

I normally wouldn't advocate 5 horse boxes as a manner of betting -- I'm a big fan of keying a single price horse whenever possible -- but there is SO much value on the BC days that "standard" betting methodologies might be somewhat lacking.

I had the winner in 8 of the 9 BC races, BUT: 6 of those came from my 4th or 5th ranked selection! Indeed, not a single top choice of mine won, and I'm confident enough in my handicapping abilities to state that it has more to do with how ultra tough and competitive the BC races are, rather than poor handicapping on my part.

What I learned from all this: don't be afraid to "open up" your cash wagering a little when warranted, as on big race days like the BC days.

And -- nothing new here -- price is KING.

HV,  great contest. Thanks for hosting.
Methinks the Commander needs to be assigned Top Weight next time, it's to easy for him. Wink

It was a great contest.  I, unfortunately, was so behind in  my handicapping to join in.  I loved reading that thread.

One thing (redboarding, I know) I loved was that 9 year old South American horse winning a Breeder's Cup race.  I love those horses and didn't have to think twice to bet him.  I think he was 16-1 and was the #6 horse, but I am to beat after three days at the off track to look it up.

I'm pretty sure he was the oldest horse to win a Breeder's Cup race.

Jeez, Commander -- does that hat fit you? It's looks WAY small.

Either that, or you have hands the size of Andre the Giant.
