Last week, we watched this show for the first time and found it to be interesting, entertaining and sometimes amusing. Moonshiners in America date back to the 1700’s and it’s still a $100 million a year industry (tax free). NASCAR got its start from moonshine runners who needed suped up cars to outrun the law. The people in the show are or were real moonshiners. When we saw and heard one of the characters (Tickle) for the first time, my husband and I looked at each other and together said “Ernest T. Bass”. The State of Virginia, where it's filmed, says it’s not real alcohol that's shown but those involved in the production say it is (was filmed in 2009).
You can watch some sneak peeks or full episodes on the following link to get a feel for the show. I highly recommend watching Extended Season 2 Sneak Peek in the Most Watched section where they burn some junk in the yard to get rid of it. It gives the term “dumb luck” a new meaning. It’s funny only because no one got hurt and who hasn’t done something really dumb.
The show is on the Discovery Channel tonight at 9:00 p.m. (Central) and it is a weekly show. Give it a look and see how the other half lives. The world would be an awfully dull place if it didn’t have its characters. You might get hooked on this show. If not, you’ll at least know what everyone else is talking about. I’ve heard a third season is in the works (first episode premiered December 6, 2011).
