Not sure how many two year old Northern Kids were training in Illinois this year but not one made it to a qualifier.  American Native that sold at the Amish sale last year for I believe the price of 3,500.00 to a woman in Iowa.  Doc Falco called she now wants 50k for the stud.  With Semper Fit, Show Stumpin Monkey, and Trot Fudge Sundae he had 5 of 9 make the track and three of those trotters had marks of 57.1, 57, and 56.3 at two.  Anyhow the University of Illinois is standing a new trotting sire at season end Cassis a son of Cantab Hall.  Just not enough trotting mares to go around with the lack of trotting races carded in Illinois.  Dan I don't think anyone would take a shot.

the rules are that a stallion has to be 100% illinois owned with no syndications

so until those rules are changed there will not be new stallions coming to Illinois unless somebody in Illinois wants to buy one and stand him here.

his yearlings sold great last year.  We have one with Erv now that is doing very well and we also have Maevey gravy that has made close to 200k.

I hope that he does end up back in Illinois because if he does we will be buying another broodmare or 2 to breed to him.

Illinois breeding program is in shambles and with Indiana offering so much for so little . Looks like the Illinois top trainers with 2 year olds are breeding in Indiana .

Well almost true with the fair races in Illinois before the 3% money came it may have taken at least 6 months to get most of your money maybe eight.  When the 3% hit the purse account the IHHA used that money to pay purses out within 1-2 weeks after DuQuion finished.  The IHHA waited till March to have money paid back from the state so seven months.  With the 3% money to last thru next Oct. or Nov. next year maybe a different story if nothing changes in Springfield.  Eight months to long to wait with so many racing bills to pay.  Find me a trainer or vet that takes a IOU.
Bought a few trotters in Indiana will give it a spin for next year.  Still bought a trotter in Illinois my kids love watching them race.

just my observation as a bettor.  i remember making money betting and winning with horses from ILL when they run in similiar non winner of x races classes in Indiana.  but this year the Indiana breds are beating the Illinois bred in the same non winner classes.  I have had to adjust my handicapping to account for this change.  That is the first bad sign for Illinois racing.  this tells me that the years of higher purses has finally caught up with the breeding.

we will still buy Illinois breds.  We did really well racing them this year and knock them all you want but Sportsmasters can race anywhere.  Reillys Daughter has the biggest heart of any horse we have ever had and she will be heard from again this winter when the Meadowlands reopens.

We have 3 yearlings this year that are Illinois breds and we are very happy with them so far.

Illinois program definetly is not the best in the country and the reason I started this thread was that maybe somebody would take notice and bring Northern Kid back to Illinois.   Valley Victor too!

I wish it was that easy.   My brother has a plan and we love to watch our horses race.  We will support the program and try and compete in the stakes only as long as they are viable.  We are not going to race in overnights here.  Good luck with your indiana breds.  We bought some there too but our heart will always be here in Illinois.

I agree with some points but to clear a couple up, while stake payments do suck in Illinois,  you have to pay a fortune to stake, the Hanover is two payments of 300 and a entry of 300 for a total of nine bills.  There actually have been a few new stallions in Illinois with Yankee Skyscaper, Pizzazzd, Southwind Breeze, and Cassis to stand next year at the University.  Also Bands Gold Chip at Falco's farm.  Know I didn't say any of them are any good but like any new sire have to give them a couple of crops.  Indiana has a ton of sires on both sides and with Jailhouse Jessie going back to slot infuse Ohio, Swan for All and Justice Hall will get the bulk of the mares and have a chance to be  proven studs.  Rocky Balbo, Cincinnati Kid, AP Lindy, and Here Comes Herbie seem to have fallen out of favor all ready as they covered between 14-32 a piece.  Already mention I think in this tread by Dan is to have a new stud they have to be owned by someone in Illinois.  With the purses the way they are who would buy one unless they already have a breeding farm.  If slots every came the language in the new bill changes that law and you would see a bunch of new stallions because the East coast farms have to many and you have issues in Canada.  Rocco is right stake payments in PA. and IN. offer the best programs for the money and that alone should say screw Illinois.  All though you are racing against more horses and quality trainers.  Also a testing program better than what is offered in this state.

Let's not give up on slots just yet.

For 2 consecutive years we've gotten bills passed in the legislature that have not met with the Gov's approval.

The governor has indicated he'd like to get a bill done early in January, before the new General Assembly is seated.  A bill that he can live with with tighter controls on the Chicago casino and with more money going to education.

For now, let's take him at his word.

Let's not quit, and keep working hard to make slots a reality.

I agree that Madigan runs the state.  No argument from me.

But to become law a bill needs Quinn's signature, not Madigan's.

Madigan needs to keep Rahm happy.  It's why he called the bill in the House.  Cullerton needs to keep Rahm happy.  Rahm will be happy with a Chicago casino.

Chicago doesn't get a casino without slots at tracks.

Northern Kid was new and he has treated us well.  We are going to stick to our plan and continue racing here.  Illinois breds can compete on the grand circuit.  We are going to race Maevey gravy and Reillys Daughter all winter and you will see how well they compete.   We are happy here and as long as there is racing we will be racing...even if it is a shell of what it used to be.       We know what we are getting ourselves into and the  reason I started this thread is so somebody may read it and decide to buy Northern Kid and bring him back here to Illinois and stand him next year.

ps. the university of illinois has Cassis standing there next year

IDK,,,RICKY MACCUMBER TOLD ME THE SURFACE AT INDY IS MUCH SOFTER

Thats my home track born and raised there....Im not talking about the surfaces, but the 7/8ths mile and the facility are waaaay better for harness....Indy downs you have a turf track and a dirt track for thouroughs....Save Cost on not having to change facilities... Overall better for gamblers and fans....Hoosier sucks for thouroughs its not a thourough track with the tight turns..

just looked the horse up in my sale book, the owners statement says that the horse was being sold to settle an estate.
