Mark Simon, former President and Editor-in-Chief of Thoroughbred Times, and Dee Dee Douglas to lead strategic initiative, based in Lexington, Kentucky.
New York, NY (Oct. 23, 2012) Daily Racing Form announces the launch of “DRF Breeding,” greatly expanding its portfolio of editorial content and product offerings to serve Thoroughbred racing’s sales and breeding market. “DRF Breeding” will debut with coverage of Keeneland Sales on November 5, 2012.
Mark Simon, former President and Editor-in-Chief of Thoroughbred Times, and Dee Dee Douglas, most recently National Sales Manager of TVG and former Thoroughbred Times executive who led its digital expansion with the launch of Thoroughbred Times TODAY, will head up DRF’s expanded editorial and business operation. Additional staff, including other former key Thoroughbred Times employees, have been hired by Daily Racing Form to significantly enrich DRF’s coverage of the Breeding, Equine and Sales market and provide new tools to serve owners, breeders, trainers and industry professionals. DRF’s Glenye Oakford will continue in her role as senior correspondent in breeding and sales.
“DRF Breeding” will deliver a comprehensive package of editorial coverage and new products to be rolled out over the next few months across digital, print and mobile platforms. This will include DRF Breeding features and columns, a digital DRF Breeding news alert highlighting the headlines in breeding, Sales blogs, a new statistical package containing DRF’s exclusive Beyer speed figures, video features showcasing stallion progeny, and a 2013 DRF Stallion Roster.
"Daily Racing Form has evaluated the Breeding and Sales market for some time, and I believe this is the perfect opportunity to dramatically expand DRF’s breeding offerings, including coverage by the leading authority in the field,” said John Hartig, CEO, Daily Racing Form. “With Mark Simon and Dee Dee Douglas on board to lead this important initiative, DRF will quickly become the go-to destination for owners, trainers, and breeders, as well as for a huge audience of fans interested in pedigree content and ownership. In 2011, The Jockey Club identified a number of key strategies for rebuilding racing which included retention of bettors and owners, and I’m convinced we can help execute on that important strategy.”
"I am excited about this opportunity to develop valuable breeding information for Daily Racing Form readers," said Mark Simon. "The tremendous resources and reach of DRF will enable us to convey meaningful, analytical news and statistics to a very broad audience -- to those already invested in this great game, as well as to fans looking to gain insight regarding bloodlines or the auction end of the sport. Racing is a dynamic sport, changing daily, and our goal is to provide participants and fans alike with an entertaining, informative, and up-to-date package of news and features so they can enjoy and profit from their involvement in racing."
“DRF Breeding” is the latest of several new business ventures Daily Racing Form has introduced in recent years. Earlier in 2012, DRF introduced DRF Harness, a new digital initiative in partnership with USTA to stimulate growth in Harness and Standardbred racing. Most recently, DRF introduced a number of new handicapping products to serve both existing and new customers to racing, including “DRF GamePlan,” “DRF Betting Window,” and digital Past Performances of America’s best selling print program “Daily Racing Program.”
