Frank Calabrese claimed a Florida-bred 2 year old filly for 16k.  He ran her back on Saturday in a 300k Florida-bred stakes and won going away.  Verso a Verso is the name.  I guess he does not always claim and drop.

You do know that it's really Pick Six Steve, and not Frank making these decisions, right? Yes, Frank has the final say, of course, but he'd be lost without Steve. This is why he can fire any trainer any time he wants.

I thought Leving was fired a long time ago, but you may be right and he is still with him.  Steve is not the brains its the Vet!

You know everything don't you?

Leving hasn't worked for Calabrese in three years, and has been working for Roussel since Calabrese fired him.

Thanks for strengthening my vet theory!

Your vet theory is right on. Listen, vets will work for 50% on their normal dollar if they are paid quick. Vets average collection on their recievables is like 75 days.

My guess is that Calabrese has a deal with the vet that the vet will throw the kitchen sink at their horses and Calabrese gets a significant break on cost for payment within 5 days.

Steve Leving has been Calabrese's racing manager again since July. HV's original comment about who engineered the claim was correct, AFAIK.

I did lose track of these guys, and I did not know that Leving was released before and was working for Roussel, but...that move with the claim had "Pick Six Steve" written all over it. The guy knows his sh*t.

Nothing in a vet's needle is going to magically make a $30K claimer into a graded stakes winner, in spite of some of our poster's exciting fantasies.

my bad then. It really doesn't surprise me considering how many times he has been in and out.

HV is right, Leving does know his stuff.

I am surprised Frank gave this horse to Luis Ramirez to train.  He is a trainer that Frank has taken under his wing down there, but Ziadie usually gets the good horses.

It appears he can select any trainer anywhere and win at around 25%.  Sometimes stats can be misleading.
