what about the rich amateur guy that drove the winner of the hambletonian and the other billionare from pennsylvania that made all his $$$;s in coal mining ??
.
Zoot - I used to feel bad for the "coal miner" everytime he raced at RR since he was always up the track. I kept saying to myself how is this guy supporting his family in this business, of course not knowing at the time that driving was nothing but a hobby for him. As it was, I happened to run across a tax case when I was doing some research at a CPA firm I was working at in in the early 80's, and his name jumped off the page. The Commissioner vs. Courtney Foos Jr. The money in question was enormous, and suffice it to say, after reading through the case, and realizing how incredibly wealthy Foos Jr. was, I no longer felt sorry for him as a driver. The man was just doing what he enjoyed, and having the last laugh on everyone.
