Hollywood Park has elected to eliminate the two/three night cards generally held at the start of the meet.

Friday nights at HollyPark: Total Drunkfest.

Late night hours are hard on the horsemen and the jockeys.

Good riddance.

Having grown up in SoCal, I can tell you the location of Hollywood Park is a neighborhood you don't want to visit unless you have an armed bodyguard or are heavily armed yourself. The windows and doors of the houses in that neighborhood have more bars on them than Attica.

Parking lot muggings are not uncommon when Hollypark runs night programs. I remember one night years ago when trainer Gary Jones chased off an attempted rapist who had assaulted a woman whose car was parked near Jones' car.

Hollywood Park likely gets a reduction in liability insurance premiums from this. It's a wise move.

And...oh yeah...one other EXTREMELY positive aspect of Hollypark's decision to eliminate its night racing: No more of those ridiculous "Late Daily Double" shows on TVG geared strictly toward the MTV crowd!!!

Yeah, let's race in the afternoon when everybody is at work.
As for those of you concerned about the neighborhood, if you are afraid of it, stay home behind locked doors.

Um...that's what happens NOW, for the most part, and afternoon handle easily blows nighttime handle out of the water.

Any other brilliant insights?
