Scratched (Stewards)

Have always wondered....

What are some reasons for a Stewards scratch?  Acting up in the paddock or on the track prior to the race?

Just curious.  Thanks!

My guess is that a steward's scratch would have more to do with ownership paperwork, licensing, race eligibility, etc.

Technically they are all steward's scratches, even the late vet scratches. It could be just about anything.

Sometimes a horse is entered to help fill a race and when it fills the stewards let you scratch.Also,if you are double entered you can scratch with their permission to run the next day.

It's the track's decision to move the race, he is saying that when horses scratch because of a surface change it is listed as a steward's scratch.
