by your definition, can a horse qualify as a "spot play" if the odds are less than 2/1?

For me Yes, because a morning line 6-1 can get crushed down to 6/5 plus some picks where people post spot plays are downt without a morning line.

Absolutely!! An even money horse can be an overlay if you know before the race that the horse is going to crush the field and win by open lengths.

Absolutely. Some wont bet a horse if ifs lower than a ceratin price, and thtats ok too. Value ane patiece are the key to success
But one bet at 2-1 and a winning wager ? Nothing wrong with that. In theory, all bets ahould be spot plays and the problem is that many of us force our bets without a solid opinion. Thats bad business
